“SUPERB”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

This is my 5th year back to dawlish sands and what can I say .......... Well it's was as good as all the other years . The entertainments manager Rusty is amazing and the rest of the team was superb. They had some hiccups at the beginning of the season but that's no ones fault rusty has done a superb job of keeping the team together.
My eldest child maisie cried and didn't want to come home.
The atmosphere is always amazing every night
We have only got a sliver plus caravan and its always been lean etc no problems at all.
The problem is you can't judge a book by its cover, you make your holiday as good as you want it to be .
Overall dawlish sands is amazing for my family every year
Entertainment is very good
Food is good ( loved the steak)
The only down fall is the children's park it needs updating the first year I came the park was good but lots of things are missing now ,,
Only one swing
No bridge between the platforms
No steps up to one of the platforms
To be honest if dawlish can sort that park out I cannot say one bad word about the place
Come on dawlish sort the park out and be the best park in dawlish :)
Cannot wait for next year already booked
Good valve for money
And you do get what you pay for otherwise I wouldn't keep coming back :)
10 out of 10 as it is every year
All I say is
JUST FIX THE KIDS PLAY AREA :)

Thank you for your review and I can confirm that a new swing and steps have been ordered for the play park and we hope these to be in place in the near future.

We will look forward to seeing you next year and will be passing on your kind comments to Rusty and her team.

Booked a gold standard caravan, which on arrival looked acceptable, soon found out it was dirty, lacking basic essentials (like 8 of everything as it was an 8 birth!) and most of the window latches were broken. We did not have our beds made once (although this was also supposed to be part of the gold service) We also booked the flexi dine which to be fair was good value for money as the food was of a good standard, sadly this was ruined by the lack of staff and we had to wait an unacceptable amount of time for courses (up to 90mins) although this was clearly not from the quantity of covers. The restaurant is in the bar and entertainment area so it was extremely noisy most if the time. dawlish warren is nice and there is a nice beach along the coastal path which is worth a visit. Would recommend the area just not Park Holidays (I also spoke to a lady who was staying at Golden Sands, their sister park and she said that was worse! Such a shame. Clearly this place needs updating and better management.

I am sorry to read that you were disappointed with your recent stay at Dawlish Sands, we are looking at revamping the Restaurant Area for next season, extending the kitchen area which is currently very small, and this should then help with the service time for food.

Food can be eaten in the Restaurant Area and also in the entertainment area so although the restaurant may appear quiet there could be guests waiting for food in the bar.

Thank you again for your feedback.

Our 'silver' caravan was really old, inside it was clean but smokers who respected the 'no smoking' policy dropped
their butts outside the caravan but it was never cleared up, along with some dog poo ! The club house was a 1980 cheap wooden building full of fruit machines which children used and ran around unsupervised. It was absolute bedlam! The entertainment was really amateurish, they worked hard but with kids running around like maniacs, sky tv,fruit machines and bingo all happening at the same time it was chaos. If we were on our own we would have gone out but as we were with our two grandchildren 5 and 7 we closed our eyes thought of England and let them join in with the maniacs. The food in the cafeteria was 'canteenish' but OK if you were prepared to wait nearly an hour for it. If we won a free holiday at this place we would stay at home. In the end you just gave up,didn't bother to change for the evening just joined the other holiday makers who seemed not to care either.
The whole camp just seemed like the 1980's but the prices were 2013 ! We went with a reputable company 'Hoseasons' who should be ashamed of themselves for advertising this dump.

Fourth year with Park holidays in Dawlish, 7 year old loves 'The Warren'. Problems from outset, needed to have veranda for the dog, when rang to book was told to put this in special request box on booking and would be sorted. Asked them to clarify that they actually had accommodation with this facility and was put through to Park its self, where the above was repeated to me. I asked them to clarify they actually could fulfil this and when the person on the phone went to check, advised me actually 'No' they do not have any accommodation with this! So had I had taken the first advice I was given I would have been extremely let down!!
Booked through a private owner on Golden Sands and no complaints about that. However as we were closest to Dawlish Sands used their facilities.
On arrival we went to reception on Dawlish Sands to get passes for the facilities, but the reception had closed. We then assumed would be able to get these in club house, but were redirected to Golden Sands reception, we then went back there to find that the office was closed (what was Peppermint office that we used last year) the other reception was a good 20 minute walk away by which point that would have been closed too. This meant we could not participate in club activities despite being booked in.
The club house was dirty, locks missing off of the toilet doors, on the day we left 17th August the last time the ladies wc had been checked was the 10/8 at 0730! I had reported this two days prior to the management team and they still done nothing to rectify it! The hot tap was so hot you could not use it to wash your hands and no plugs to mix water. Only 1 hand drier was working, therefore most people did not even wash their hands! The toilets were dirty with tissue and wet floors.
Twice I tried to order food at 2030 hrs, sign advised restaurant open till this time and then light bites menu available, both time I was advised now shut due to staff shortages, no apology given. I enquired why no signs were displayed forewarning of this and the staff member agreed it should have been. I then reported this to the manager of the complex, so I was shocked the following night to find the same situation, still no signs! No shop was available on site either therefore a trek to get food.
Whilst sitting pool side as my son swam a sign fell from the wall and hit me on the head! This was not a paper signs but a 5ml depth large plastic sign that had been stuck up with sticky tape! I reported this to the life guards whom were young and trying not to laugh, but did apologise and then got more tape and stuck it back up!! Sticky tape in a glass green house wet environment is never going to work. I was lucky it did not injure me, someone else may not have been so lucky. The changing room was dirty with nappies strewn on the floor and sand everywhere. I appreciate that you will have mess but I did not see anyone cleaning as I have in previous years. On one visit to the pool on what was the hottest day of our holiday the outside pool had been shut, I assume because they only had 2 lifeguards on duty. This was very disappointing for this kids.
I had recommended this site to my family whom booked direct with Park on Dawlish Sands and they had to be moved from their 'Gold Plus' accommodation as it was dirty and not fit for purpose. There were cobwebs everywhere, and they remained even after the cleaning team were sent in to redo it! One of the beds was wet and they were not sure if they could find another mattress as the park was full.
On the Wednesday I made a written complaint at the bar of Dawlish Sands which I gave to the bar manager addressed to Michelle the Park Manager. I did not hear from her at all on the Thursday so contacted head office direct. The park manager from Golden Sands then came to see me on the Friday morning and I gave him a list of all my complaints which he then took to Michelle, I then heard no more despite them all having my telephone number. I began to wonder if Michelle actually exists as my family failed to meet her either as others were sent to sort out their complaints???
The entertainment for the kids was aimed at little children and no good for my 7 year old or my nieces and nephew of similar ages.
The arcade games in the club house are a nightmare and we had no peace as constantly wanting money as the entertainment did not appear to try and engage the kids to stop this happening.
Head office have now assured me that I will have a written response which I wait with baited breath for......
Moral of the story, go to Ladies Mile ;-)

Just returned from my 3rd stay at dawlish sands and amazing time had once again.....
we stayed in a gold caravan this time round, having stayed previously in a bronze it was so worth paying for,spacious,2 toilets which really helped(having 3 boys)up to date decor and we were right next to the pool and park PERFECT!!!
The overall site is clean, all staff were pleasant and are happy to answer any of your questions.
There is a railway line which was right next to our caravan, but didnt bother us in the slightest.
Dawlish sands is in a perfect location being a 10min walk into dawlish warren, which has many shops, arcades, beach, nature walks, and a massive green to play cricket, ball games etc......
The pool onsite needs abit of maintenance but does his job as keeping the kids happy.
the clubhouse isnt a great size, but this is what i love about it,the arcades are in the entertainments room which means you can enjoy the fab entertainment, and the children can still be seen.
You can pay for half board option to eat in the clubhouse which is well worth it(no dishes all hols),breakfast-cereal/fruit juice and english breakfast and starters and main or main and sweet for your evening meal lots of great choices.
The entertainment team are fab, managed by RUSTY,who has an amazing voice, she really does work hard making sure the team are working together.despite being 2 down from their team the week we were there, they still managed to put on outstanding shows. JEN also has a fab voice and CORY and JAMES are amazing too, with their dry sence of humour,i can see this 2some going far.
( even better than the entertainers we had on our first choice hoilday villages abroad).........
keep up the good work guys you are truely amazing people.
The entertainment is the reason why i will return back to dawlish sands time and time again xxx

Title sums it up really. Don't get me wrong it was Okay, and nice to get a change of scenery - we only really used the park as a base and went out every day and evening, so I can't comment on The Club House or Entertainment.

We paid for a Gold+ Caravan and if the one we got was indeed Gold I hate to think what the Bronze are like. I honestly think the only difference must be an extra bedroom and no dogs in the Golds - although the lovely folks in the bronze let their dogs dump outside our front door. Bless.

Now, leaving the comforts of home and staying in a caravan I wasn't expecting any luxuries like a jacuzzi and a mini bar but having paid around £400 extra for a Gold caravan I thought we might get some sweet little extras - like cushions, or slightly bigger rooms or a larger TV. Yes we did have a DVD player in the living room area but the TV was only bigger than my ipad. There was no point in using it.

The campsite itself was in a good area for getting about - a short walk to "The Warren" and not far to Dawlish Town. Unfortunately their is a train line that runs down the side, however we were one of the vans next to it and I didn't think the noise was too bad, but then I do live next to a busy road so maybe I'm slightly immune to noise. When I handed our keys back at the end of the week there was a lady complaining about noise - but this was because they were right next to the club house. Another downer (for me anyway) was no views. None.

Another slight, rather awkward problem is other people and their kids. You are all mixed in together and I guess that should be expected but just be warned - you might end up next to Mr and Mrs Tracksuit and their kids with BB Guns (available from local shop), who like to throw the big border stones around cars. It might have just been our dodgy luck I guess.

The campsite is clean and the staff were friendly and pleasant. There was quite a bit of litter by our caravan (Chinese takeaway containers and such) which was there the whole week. The seagulls had a field day and people probably thought it was caused by us. And I don't want to be completely pedantic but there was a lack of flowers! Every other site had good outdoor lighting, palm trees, flowers, shrubs, hanging baskets - there was nothing here. Just grass and hedges.

I used the on-site Laundrette. Met a right couple of characters in there! But it was handy to have one on sit. 4 washers, 4 dryers. £3.50 for a 30 min wash. £1.50 for 45 min drying.

We never went to the club but used the swimming pool a couple of times. It was fine, my young boys had no complaints. Outdoor pool was closed both times and the weather was fine though. We were quite near so didn't use the pool changing rooms so I can't comment on those. It seemed to make more sense to go back to the caravan and shower and change.

Overall it was bad, but we just felt a bit robbed. We paid for Gold and it felt like we got Bronze but with an extra room. It was ridiculously basic. The kids all loved it and that was the main thing but we won't be returning to this particular site.

I am sorry that you felt disappointed by your stay at Dawlish Sands and that other guests tainted your holiday experience.

I appreciate your feedback and am sorry that you felt the park lacked flowers and foilage, the entrance and surrounding area has shrubs and there are hanging baskets in front of Reception although quite high up.

I do hope you will change your mind and will consider re-visiting Dawlish Sands again in the future.

Thank you again for your feedback.
