“Stay clear of the over priced carvery.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013 via mobile

Disgrace. .. The carvery was over priced at nearly £9.00. The chef spent more time trying to shave off the smallest piece of meat from the gammon, when infact had he just cut off a decent size piece would of been quicker. Potatoes were the smallest ive seen all three of them. Oh yeah the best bit you can actually help yourself to as much tinned sweetcorn as you like... Fair to say, stay well clear plenty more carverys around where you can actually help yourself. You will be dissapointed you have beem warned.

Your review is the Disgrace. All of our meat is local and beautifully tender - and you get large slices of up to 3 different meats. Customers are always asked if that is enough for them, or if they would like any more. Our moto has always been "You can ask for as much as you like as long as you eat all that you have asked for!" We always ask how many potatoes the customer would like, which are cut small so that they are crispy rather than soggy. Once on the plate, the customer is always asked if that is enough or would they like some more. We always use the best produce you can buy for the Carvery, and if that means Green Giant sweetcorn which, yes tinned, is the best on the market, in our opinion. And yes, you can help yourself to as much veg as you would like - what else is a carvery about. We have customers who come regularly which would not happen if we were as stingy and overpriced as you suggest.

If you were unhappy with the amount of food that you helped yourself too and received, why did you not say so at the time, as we always ask all of our diners if everything is OK, which you must have answered yes to.

I recently visited the East Dart Hotel for a weekend trip with my 2 young children and 2 friends and had such a lovely stay. Rosie and Paul greeted us with a friendly reception after a long journey from Brighton. Our rooms were spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. I had a family room which had an extra room with bunk beds which certainly made my stay more comfortable.
The hotel is located in a stunning part of central Dartmoor with a postoffice/shop and tourist information centre just a short walk away. There is also a beautiful clapper bridge 2 mins walk away with a shallow stream which the kids loved splashing about in. Plenty of lovely walks too directly from hotel.
We had our evening meals at the hotel which were delicious, filling and excellent value for money. The cooked breakfasts we had there were equally as good.
This hotel is very family friendly and the staff bent over backwards to accomodate us.
We will definately visit the East Dart Hotel again!!

When we arrived we noticed a smell of greasy food but were greeted by a nice member of staff who showed us to our room. First impressions were the room was dated and basic but appeared clean and tidy. We did notice a noise from the fan outside one of our windows but after a short time this did become more intermittent. The shower pressure was like a trickle. Breakfast was satisfactory but again very basic. Apart from the smells in the bar and lounge we were most put off by the Newfoundland dog. These dogs are very large and have no place amongst the public. We did notice the dog bothering customers in the garden and were shocked when we saw the dog clear food from their plates after they left. The owners appeared to ignore this and/or don't care. They should appreciate that not everyone likes dogs, especially ones this size left to roam around. This is most unhygienic. It makes you wonder what they allow to go on in their kitchen. Very surprised by some of the good reviews on these premises.

I have never before met 2 people so determined to find fault. Our breakfast basic! We use quality local ingredients (the same bacon as Bovey Castle use - check them out) and substantial. The breakfast you got was exactly what you asked for both mornings, and cooked to a very high standard. A newfoundland dog, as pictured on our website, has as much right to be around the public as a Jack Russell and to say that we ignore her approaching customers is libellous - especially as most customers beckon her over. We have signs everywhere requesting people not to feed her. We have received a hygiene rating of 4 for the kitchen, again the same as Bovey Castle, as we keep everything immaculate. You cannot comment on "what we do in our kitchen" unless you see for yourselves, and we are not afraid to let people in our kitchen at any time.

All of our good reviews are genuine and by people who appreciate hard work, good food and excellent service and hospitality, for which we have won an award.

I had a wonderful few days staying at this Hotel, and used it as a base while exploring the local moorland.
The room I stayed in was immaculate and well presented, including a more than generous tea/coffee "hospitality" tray.
Breakfast was fantastic, with a range of options and generous in portion size.

I found the staff to be very helpful and attentive at all times, always making sure customers were happy and satisfied, with nothing being too much trouble.

Having also made use of the bar / restaurant, I found it had a lovely, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of fantastic food to choose from.

I would definately stay here again the next time I get the opportunity.
Many thanks to all the East Dart Hotel for making my stay a pleasurable one!

Popped into the East Dart Hotel for lunch and enjoyed a really well presented ploughmans with a nice fresh salad. It made a change from some of the excuses you get for salad these days. We sat inside to cool off on a hot day along with half a dozen other people. There was a general conversation going on between customers and staff which made it a pleasant hour or so. The actual bar was large if a little dark but atmospheric.
I cannot comment on the hotel accommodation but for lunch it was a pleasant interlude during an enjoyable trip.

This Hotel was a perfect stopover for a light lunch and refreshing drinks ! Had a lovely chat with the owners and if you are a dog lover , you will love their " tiny " pet ! Yes it is darkish inside but that makes it even more warm, cosy and snug ! The mural is attractive and the decor fitting ! Just what you would expect on the moors ! the scenery and surrounds are delightful...so give this one a try !
