“Easy cycling, great views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

Our family really enjoyed this easy, off-road cycle path between Okehampton at one end, and (in our case) lunch at the Bearslake Inn at the other. We rented bikes from Devon Cycle Hire at the halfway point near Sourton Down - they were incredibly friendly and helpful, and you can rent the bikes for just 4 hours which is plenty of time and good value. The route, which is mostly level, crosses a couple of viaducts with excellent views across the countryside.

“Amazing Views and great cheap way to get a real flavour of Dartmoor!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

This was recommended by all the locals and well publicised and signed in Okehampton itself - definately the better end to start. I hired a bike from the YHA hire centre - £6 for half day. Go to the station in Okehampton to find the hostel (also worth staying in). and the bike hire is handled by reception. Great to cycle along the old railway and see steam trains working the line. Also good for refreshments - several decent pubs along the way - for food and ales, all good. Lovely views and wildlife to see, just be aware that if you follow the granite way all the distance to Lydford that the last couple of miles are quite hilly and, as good as this is for challenge and exercise - it might be less good if you have children with you. The route is do-able in 2 hours - there and back - if you are quick, but a half day meandering along and stopping for views and refreshments would be better!

“Great cycle route”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012 via mobile

Lovely route from Okehampton Station along the Granite Way. We hired bikes from Devon Cycle Hire near Sourton - great value for money and lovely, friendly people. Also stopped at Meldon Viaduct where there are great views and an old buffet car. Recommended and would certainly return.

“Cycling out of Okehampton”

Part of the Devon Coast-to-Coast cycle route. Fantastic views from Meldon and Lake viaducts, a few miles out from Okehampton

“A beautiful cycle ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012

We rode this route which makes up a section of the Devon C2C Ilfracombe to Plymouth cycle ride. I have ridden this before with young people who all managed the steady ascent going out from Okehampton and the fast slightly down hill return journey!

Lovely scenery along the way.
