“A quick relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

This might not be the most luxurious hotel around but it must be one of the most friendly. We only had two nights there. However, we quickly felt at home, ready to relax in the spa and enjoy the beautiful and quiet countryside that surrounds the place. The meals were very special and at the end of our two days we felt very special as well. What a lovely find. We are a bit reluctant to review the hotel as it might get more busy!

We booked the hotel for my 70th Birthday Celebration and it turned out to be the most amazingly wonderful time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the accommodation and the food was fantastic. Having stayed in many hotels, I can really say that this one rates as one of the best and we shall certainly be returning - the sooner the better !

Room Tip: Everyone who stayed was pleased with their room, and so I think it is safe to go with any

We needed a break away from it all and could not have found a better place to unwind. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and the facilities great. The rooms are slowly being updated but you can ignore the wallpaper as the beds are huge and comfortable and the pool and gym great. The food was also very good with a choice of resturant or gastro pub. Loved the wood fires would definetly recommend it.

Excellent friendly service from all staff. Beautiful views all round the hotel and so quiet at night! Hotel itself of high quality though pool area tired and tatty. Great breakfast. Ideal for break away from it all and to recharge your batteries.

Stayed here for one night when visiting family living about 20 mins away. Easy to get to and find, very warmly and professionally welcomed by not only the staff but the delicious scent of the log burning fire. Our room had exceptional views over the moor and surrounding countryside that was an utter joy. The room was well equipped and full of beautiful furniture, some of the furnishings and the bathroom looked a little dated but this in no way took away from the relaxing and very attractive hotel itself. It seems to be in the process of being slowly transformed and i would be very pleased to go back and see how it has developed. Very comfortable night sleep, delicious breakfast with great views. We ate at the village pub (definitely worth a visit) in the evening so can't comment on the rest of the food. My partner used the spa facilities - not hugely glamourous - but which did the job. Overall a fairly magical experience with no complaints whatsoever. Very happy.

Room Tip: We went for the room with a view, absolutely worth it.

We have just enjoyed a fantastic two night break at this wonderful hotel. It was a 'walker's special' and included a full dinner with lots of little extras on the first night, a packed lunch for day two and a fantastic cream tea eaten by the fireside. Every meal we had was beautifully prepared with such an eye to detail. The staff were so attentive and everything from the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms to the log fires and the contrast of the modern 'bar' serving exciting sharing fondues made this a really memorable stay. The location of this hotel is great for Haytor, Bovey Tracey etc. but also for the South Devon coastline which was wonderfully wild as we sat and enjoyed our packed lunches watching the 20 foot waves beat the pebbles at Slapton. Superb staff made this hotel, though you might also consider location, views, wildlife in grounds, peacefulness, value for money and memorable food too! Thank you. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We upgraded to Country room on first floor and enjoyed a view to the rear of the hotel. (Lift availa...
