“A restful break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

My wife and I stayed for a two-night break. We had a standard room that was excellent, breakfast was superb. We ate in the restaurant on both evenings and thouroughly enjoyed the food. The dining room could have been a bit warmer on the first night but on the second night it was much warmer. We had drinks by the fire. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall I thoroughly recommend the Three Crowns and hope to return soon.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights and had a lovely time. Our room was a standard but had enough space and was very nicely decorated. The only down point were that it was freezing cold when we first arrived as the radiator had been switched off, however it soon warmed up.
The staff were very friendly and super helpful and although we only had dinner here one evening they really made sure that our every need was met.
Hopefully we will be back again in the future.

Three Crowns a very good Hotel pub with good staff and in the centre of the small Dartmoor town of Chagford. The room we had was comfortable and the meal and breakfast good. There was a large open fire in the lounge with two comfortable arm chairs although there was a lot of noise coming down the chimney!
A good place to stay and a vast improvement on the run down pub it was. Convenient for the moors and next to two amazing hardware stores which are an attraction in their own right and worth a visit.

We returned to this lovely Inn for a two night break at the end of January; the weather was far from welcoming, a serious hoolie had blown us down the motorway, but our welcome at the Three Crowns was as warm and friendly as ever. Once installed in our favourite (superior) room, the worries of the week drifted away in bubbly baths and fluffy towels, and we recharged our batteries ready to enjoy dinner with friends whom we'd invited over for the evening. We had a superb meal, the service was excellent, wine plentiful and choice more than good enough for our wide ranging preferences (ie one friend who is a very fussy eater!!). We were really pleased that they thought the place is as great as we do - there's nothing we would want to change or improve upon, and its so lovely to stay somewhere that the staff appear to thoroughly enjoy working at too. Its only an hour's drive from home; we're already looking forward to our next trip.

Table booked for seven plus dog, moved from the main restaurant to the bar as they had forgotten the dog, not a problem.Had really been looking forward to a lovely family lunch, l ordered liver, which was hardly cooked and very chewy, the others all had fish and chips and enjoyed theirs,so maybe l should have ordered the same!

I can't think of a single even slightly bad thing to say about this pub and hotel. We stayed for three nights for my husband's birthday and everything about our stay was outstanding. We arrived to find a parking space reserved for us, and got a warm welcome at reception.

We stayed in the suite and it was great value (we booked well in advance online and got a really good discount offer) and it was gorgeous. Huge bed, well furnished, spacious. Separate to the bedroom was a little cosy lounge positioned above the entrance to the pub which was a nice area to sit and read and meant a bit more space. When we arrived there were fresh pastries in our room which was a lovely touch. The room comes with tea and coffee facilities and biscuits too. You can get room service from the restaurant downstairs as well. There was a big spotless bathroom and plenty of nice toiletries and fluffy white robes too.

Breakfast was great - you order from the hot menu and help yourself from the cold buffet selection. There is lots of choice and the cooked breakfasts were superb; they try to source their food locally. We ate in the restaurant twice and both meals were excellent. So was the mulled wine we enjoyed before dinner!

The place is organised so there is a nice pub part at the front downstairs, with the restaurant (also the breakfast room) at the back in a well lit atrium extension. The rooms are upstairs. Reception is in between the pub and restaurant and isn't staffed full time given the size of the place, but every time we went down someone was always quick to come from the bar or restaurant. There is also free wifi, helpful as phone signal is pretty limited in the area.

Chagford itself is a lovely little village although we didn't explore too much as we were using it as a base for walking. The hotel is old and has an attractive frontage too with the car park at the back. Overall, we would recommend this place to anyone and definitely would go back on our next trip to Devon.

Room Tip: The Godolphin suite is highly recommended.

The stay was just perfect. Meal in front of log fire, well appointed room and good breakfast- (husband especially appreciated the fried bread!) The staff were particularly helpful especially Amanda at reception.Good location.
