“cold damp holiday”

Our chalet was a bronze chalet so we didn't have high expectations! so to come home disappointed gives some indication how bad our stay was! Admitted the weather was also against us but for it to be warmer outside than in was a little shock to the system,
Our chalet had one wall heater in the lounge/kitchen but with the wind coming through the front door and windows was pointless. The bedrooms had wall heaters but with no insulation in the chalet was again pointless. The bathroom had no heating at all...Although clean the chalet was dated and tired looking and felt damp, the wall paper coming away in the corners reflected this.
On the one day i felt brave enough to use the shower as it was so cold the fuses blew, no hot water,no heating, no lights, not a great situation to be in when in is minus temperature outside! Having spoken to other holiday makers i heard them tell similar stories so this wasn't a one off as we thought but a genuine problem on the site.
The club house was even colder than the chalet if that is possible but at least they realised or responded to complaint and bought in heaters for the remainder of the week. The entertainment was poor and aimed at getting you to spend money, the toys lined up at children's eye level doesn't help when your on a budget holiday either.The entertainment reps were more interested in each other than the customers!
The onsite shop was poorly stocked, although the staff were friendly and helpful, we were advised that it was considered to be out of season, but if i can book a holiday then the holiday season has started! and the shop and site should reflect this.
On our first night we noticed a large amount of broken glass on the walkway from chalets to clubhouse, i reported this out of concern and not to be a moaning customer as there are children and pets on the site, i'm sad to say the glass was still there when we left 5 days later.
On one of the evenings we decided to order a take away from the on site restaurant to be told it was closed, one hour before it was advertised as closing, apparently out of season!
We decided to spend some time in the bar away from the poor entertainment, we decided to have a game of darts only to be told there was no dart board, yet the pool table was up and running - but you had to pay, the arcade was up and running- but you had to pay, but a game of darts which was free - no dart board.
We as a family feel very disappointed, we work hard and although a budget holiday was our holiday non the less but we would of been better off staying at home.

Room Tip: Bronze chalets are freezing..wear thermals

I am very sorry that you encountered problems during your recent stay with us. unfortunately the extremely cold weather resulted in guests using extra heaters which unfortunately had an affect on the electricity supply throughout the park. I am sure that you can appreciate, with so many high wattage appliances switched on at any one time, the ssytem would trip as a safety precaution.
With regards to our connvenience store, we do try and cater for the essentials rather than the masses with so many people using the major supermarkets en route to the the park and I am very sorry that this was not to your liking.
Having noted your comments regarding glass on the park, I have taken a walk around and was unable to locate this, suggesting that it has already been cleared. I can only apologise that this was not done during your stay with us, once reported.
I can now confirm that the Dart Board is now firmly in place and would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.
It gives me no pleasure to read reviews such as yours, however Trip Advisor reviews represent a very small percentage of the thousands of guests who holiday with us each year and I can again only apologise that you were disappointed.

just returned for a weekend a landscove and was pleasantly surprised. we stayed in a sliver caravan which had a lovely view of the coastal walk and the sea. the only porblem was the weather so windy we couldnt really enjoy the beautiful coast line. the caravan was very nice and spotlessly clean. the complex itself is nice but felt it could do with a bit of tlc, but the staff more than made up for it. i cant believe the review i have just read, every single member of staff was so polite and friendly and made us feel very welcome. felt we had to wait a long time for our food but they apologised and explained they were very busy. the food was worth the weight it was very nice. while we were there we enjoyed 2 fantastic shows put on by the entertainment team who all seemed to work very hard, i cant comment on the kids club as we didnt have any kids with us. the pool area is a bit dated but i for one was impressed with them having 2 life guards on duty, will be nice in the summer when the outdoor pool is open. i would say the only problem was that the complex was very cold when we asked about this they told us there was no heating, think they need to think about this as we are in england and rather than have a drink in the cold bar we went back to our caravan . overall a very pleasant weekend

Thank you gill s for such a great review. This is certainly in contrast to the previous post. It is always gratifying when guests take the time to post there positive comments, as it is more often the case that platforms such as Trip Advisor are used only for negative comments and for this I would like to thank you so much.
I know that the staff will be pleased that you found them to be of a friendly nature.
With regards to the heating in our complex, it is very rare that we find it to be as cold as the recent weather experienced and I can only apologise. We did make arrangements to hire additional heating for the main clubroom during the Easter Break which made a huge difference. Now that the temperature has risen, hopefully this will no longer be required.
I hope that we can welcome you back in the future, maybe when the sun is shining in Devon once again.

Just returned from a 3 night easter break and it is fair to say that we feel absolutely conned by the way this holiday park presents itself on its website. On arriving at the park we were horrified to see the state of some of the chalets that people were expected to stay in, they can only be described as sheds! Luckily we were staying in silver cottages! On arrival at just after 3pm we were told that we would have to check in at 4pm which was fair enough as that is stated at time of booking. The bar and amusements were open and available to use, first impression of the bar area was that it was clean and inviting, when you look a little closer it was far from that! Carpet on the stairs leading to the bar area is stuck down with gaffer tape, tables are left with empty glasses and rubbish. The amusement arcade is inviting to children however watch out, the machines are old and very dated, the change machine provides you with the new style 10p piece but none of the machines accept them.

When we checked in and got to the cottages we found them to be a nice size and suitable for us if a little dated and old fashioned but ok, the bathroom was ok apart from the shower curtain falling of the wall several times. Kitchen was good, the beds were awful and in desperate need of replacement. If you leave the water heater on be warned you won't get any sleep its that noisy. My advice would be take your own bedding and pillows.

Swimming pool is tired and staffed by very intimidating life guards who stand right on the edge of the tiny pool just staring! People are allowed to walk in and around the pool in outdoor footwear and trust me people were wearing muddy wellingtons but the lifeguards appear to be too busy telling people not to shout or have fun than to worry about contamination. Clubhouse entertainment can only be described as amateurish, the children's disco time was a joke the camp entertainers seeming to be more interested in themselves than people's enjoyment. The bar staff were stretched to say the least and appeared to be lacking any experience in the role. We tried to buy a cuddly toy for our daughter but because the bar man didn't know how to find it on the till we were amazed to be told he could not sell it to us! I have read several reviews and seen that people generally say the the staff were friendly and helpful, all in our party strongly disagree with that. I really really want to find something good I can write about this park but I'm sorry I can't. Even on leaving and handing back the keys the reception staff just sit at their desk with no comments on did we have a good stay or have a safe journey.

This was our first and last time at landscove park which is really disappointing as their web site promotes it so well but is not a true reflection on what you will find. In summary the camp needs a major investment in both facilities and staff!! Just thought of something positive, the location!

Room Tip: Don't stay in anything other than the gold caravans or silver cottages unless you want to sleep...

I was really sorry to note such a negative review and would like to apologise that your stay with us did not meet your expectation. Unfortunately we have suffered in our arcade with the newly released batch of 10p coins and as such this is being corrected and where possible the staff are more than happy to chenge the coins when asked.
With regards to the swimming pool, I am sure that you appreciate the importance of the lifeguards role in watching the pool. Regular cleaning around the poolside does take place, however with the exceptionally bad weather experienced during your stay with us I can only apologise if you found the area unacceptable.
As you may be aware, the Park had only just reopened prior to the Easter Break and many staff were new to their role and I am very sorry that their inexperience showed, this has been brought to the attention of the Complex Manager who has in turn carried out an elemant of retraining.
I was surprised at your comments regarding the entertainment, as the team work tirelessly to ensure guests of all ages are looked after. We must of course remember that holiday parks are a great place for hopefuls to further their career and acts as a springboard in helping them achieve their aspirations. Our activities and shows are generally well received, however we do not claim to be of "West End" standards and again apologise that it was not to your taste.
As you mention in your review, in general the staff at Landscove are praised for being friendly and helpful which is in contrast to your remarks. I can assure you that it is not in their interest to cause upset to any of our guests and I am sure they will be disappointed with your comments. I would however like to thank you for taking the time to write a review.

My husband and i have returned today from an easter break at landscove, Reading other people's reviews i was really worried as there were alot of bad comments but i couldn't see why people were moaning. we originally booked a bronze chalet but when we arrived we were given a free upgrade to a cottage which was lovely, spacious and very clean, one small fault is the shower wasn't very powerful but i had baths instead. We arrived early knowing we may not be able to get in til 4, the reception staff were very friendly and explained we couldn;'t get in til 4, we understood this so went shopping and spent some time looking around the campsite. We booked the flexi dine for breakfast the full english was quite basic but my husband says was nice, i preferred the sausage bap which was lovely, the evening meals were really nice with a large choice of different meals we had the carvery on the sunday was really nice just a little basic the way i see it you get what you pay for and at £6.50 it was good value, the mega sundae's were lush to. we found all of the staff lovely in all departments and couldn't do enough for you. little moan is the swimming pool is very small and not big enough to swim in especially when i went in as it was very busy, the entertainment was good a bit cheesy but we like that kind of thing. we had a lovely first time at lansdcove and would definatly go back again .

Stayed in one of the sea view caravans in august. The caravan was only a couple of years old and was small and basic but did the job. Some of the chalets did look a bit dated.
The site itself is nice with a great little club and eatery. Good for the kids with the indoor and outdoor pools and playing fields. Great basecamp with a great location to explore.

The park is in a great location for exploring the local vicinity which I hope you managed to take advantage of. With regards to the chalets on the park, these still prove to be very popular with many of our returning guests and we do make an effort to present the in a clean and comfortable condition. I hope that we can welcome you back to the park sometime, especially now that we are developing a new caravan holiday home area at Landscove which we are all very excited about.

We booked this weekend away through the sun holiday scheme.
After deciding to take our two dogs with us (this cost £25 per dog), we read up the reviews of the bronze holiday cottages.
I was a little disappointed with some reviews and thought that we would be too cold living in a 'shed' for the weekend! I shouldn't of worried the chalet was clean and warm (three heaters, one in lounge, others in bedrooms) when we arrived.
We arrived onsite 2 hours earlier than check-in time (4pm) so decided to walk to the harbour with our dogs. Took us approx 15mins (all downhill) and the views were gorgeous, what a pretty harbour! We sampled the local cider in numerous pubs and the dogs were welcomed with water and lots of free petting!!! The one thing we loved about Brixham was how dog friendly the whole place was. After a number of ciders later, we decided to walk back to the site, this took a little longer with it being all up hill!!!
We checked in and were in our chalet unpacked in 10 minutes flat....
That night we went to the restaurant onsite and had pie & chips and burger & chips, menu was general pub grub cooked well and tasty. we then had fun in the amusement arcade (yes we are in our thirties but we are big kids at heart!!!) on the 2-penny-push!
Following day we walked to Berry Head nature reserve, approx 10mins from the site. It was beautiful, the views were stunning and even saw the dolphins from the clifftop! The dogs were exhausted after 2 hours running and playing in the large open spaces.
That night we got a taxi to the harbour to celebrate my birthday, plenty of friendly pubs/bars with great ciders and ales and a lot of them had live music. We ate at The Crab Quay Restaurant and ordered the Seafood Platter for two, which was the size of a small table!!! I would definitely recommend it if you are hungry ;-)
Breakfast the next morning had to be a full english - the best place for that was at 'J's Corner' on the harbour - friendly staff and yummy food! Followed by a walk along the coastal path that joins onto the site. We walked along the path for about an hour and got to a secluded beach (St Mary's Bay) lovely walk downhill there - all uphill on way back. Worth the walk but don't wear too many layers like me or you'll end up baking hot!!!

My husband, me and our two dogs love Brixham and love Landscove and will def be returning! My camera is full to the brim with superb pictures and our dogs slept for days after!
Whilst round Brixham look out for the 'Brixham Banksy' who has tagged numerous buildings around with his graffiti art. (TIP: look around the fish market for a few) My husband and i turned it into a competition as to who could find the most (he won!).

this was our first visit to Landscove,never again, arrived at 3 00pm,had to wait until 4.00,given keys to a bronze chalet ( this was a Express and echo holiday ) first impression chalet needed pulling down, Inside another story,grubby ,had to move a large armchair to get the small dining table out ,The bath was stained and black, . Went back to reception wanted another chalet or caravan ,had to pay another £20 to be upgraded to their silver accomadation, given keys to a caravan ,open the door only to find we had been given keys to a caravan which someone was staying in, back again to reception asked if there was any other acommidation given keys to a bunglow, dried baked beans in sink, dried in baked beans on plates floor not been swept, lots of faults, we did accept this accomadation as the next upgrade was an extra £45
