Dear Malcolm,

Thank you for visiting and for writing such a great review! We are really pleased that you enjoyed your visit and hope to see you again some time.

The summer solstice events were our first events since taking over in May and we were delighted with how well they went. Rest assured, we will be repeating next year - hopefully with some live music this time! By the way in August we are doing Paella evenings every Sunday and Wednesday in case you live nearby?

If you would like to join our mailing list, and therefore receive irregular news and information about special events, please contact me on info@guardhousecafe.com.

Best wishes,
Alex, Lucy and the Guardhouse Team

“Fab views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

Light & airy with masses of windows looking out to sea. Friendly welcome, great bacon sarnies. Not sure I agree with a 20p charge for a glass of water, even if it is voluntary.

Dear Wandawoman,

Thank you VERY much for taking the time to write a review! We are very glad that you enjoyed your visit.

My husband Alex and I took over the cafe at the beginning of May and agree with you that tap water should be free. Unfortunately we haven't yet reprinted the menus to reflect this change, but we certainly no longer charge anything. In fact this week we have introduced bottles of chilled tap water to the display cabinet so that anyone can help themselves. Hydration is important in this sunny weather! (Having written that I notice that it has just started to rain; oh well, we have certainly been lucky with the weather over the last few weeks.)

We appreciate feedback and are constantly seeking to improve our service - thank you for your comment and we hope that you will visit again - please do introduce yourself to us, it would be a pleasure to meet you!

kind regards,

Lucy

“good pit stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

This is an excellent pit stop when walking around berry head nature reserve. Staff are very friendly, food is really good and everything is fresh. If the weather is good you can sit outside and take in the views as well, well worth a visit

“Great chowder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

We love this cafe, and it's often the main reason we walk up to Berry Head! The new owners are very lovely and friendly. The chowder really is very good, and we love the small bottles of wine available. It's a great little place for families with small children. The only thing that would improve it would be a few more tables outside.

“Friendly staff and excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

This is a vibrant cafe located in an old guardhouse at Berry Head near Brixham. Inside is light and airy and there are plenty of seats outside too. Dogs are welcome, in fact, there are complementary dog biscuits at the till for four legged friends! I had an excellent seafood chowder, full of prawns and scallops and lots of flavour. This was served with warm bread. The red pepper and tomato soup of the day was excellent too. For afters there are scones, cakes and tray bakes galore. A lemon cake was moist and zesty and the millionaire shortbread was very moreish. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. For added entertainment on certain days one can see reenactments of skirmishes between English Guards and Napoleonic troops on the cliff top nearby!
