“It's and odd place but the food was good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

Went here for a light lunch. Two of us had mixed crab sandwiches which were lovely, these were accompanied by some salad. Another had fish was also very well cooked. The other member of our party asked for an alteration to the way her meal was served; this was accomplished without fuss and the food was also well cooked.

The internal décor of the restaurant is very dark and quite eclectic. It is, to be honest, a bit foreboding in atmosphere with very dark wood and equally dark paintings and brasses covering the walls. There were also some handwritten notices about telling you what you couldn't do and when I finally found the ladies room upstairs via a quite labyrinthine route, passing a wizard type ornament sitting on one of the tables, I found it amusing that there was even a small handwritten sign saying "press taps" (it seemed like an order, but, maybe it is just my sense of humour...).

Anyway, we found the food good and the staff, although they were pleasant enough, we got the feeling that they would soon sort you out if you upset them in any way. As I said, it's an odd place, whether or not intentional. Maybe the management/owners could think about that.

“A fish for all tastes!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

When on holiday in Brixham we discovered this little gem by the harbour. It's outside menu alone would tell you what a huge range of freshly caught fish they have to offer. We certainly did'nt have a problem with the service! Our meals, all fish were the best we have ever tasted without exception and we would'nt hesitate in recommending this family run restaurant to anyone!

“unfriendly restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

we were turned away at 5.30 on a tuesday evening when the restaurant was empty because we had one child in a pushchair.....thank heavens!... we ate instead in the Montpellier a few doors down.we were greeted with open arms and as a party of 4 adults and one child we happliy paid £80 for excellent food and lovely friendly staff in a much more attractive restaurant.this prompted us to re visit the montpellier 3 more times during our stay,......there is a lesson to be learned here for the staff at saxtys.having read the reviews above it seems that we may have had a lucky escape!
