We had dinner here on Sunday night and it was excellent. We started off with a couple of delicious cocktails while we perused the menu, which offered so many tempting dishes it was very difficult to decide what to have. To make it worse there was also three very tempting dishes on the ‘specials’ menu. We started with a shared Prawn Cocktail – I’m a sucker for a Prawn Cocktail – which was the surprise of the night. We were expecting something fairly traditional but instead it was a heavenly, generous measure of prawns in a lovely light but tasty sauce served with the dressed shredded lettuce and leaves all surrounded with a lovely balsamic reduction served on a slate with some whole prawns – I can’t tell you how great it looked and tasted. From a number of contenders for mains we finally settled on the Roast Belly Pork (served on a bed of black pudding mash and asparagus with a green pepper sauce) for me and the Sea Bass special for my wife. Again both looked great and tasted amazing. The portions were very generous which seems to be reflected across the menu – we saw the man on a table across from us look open mouthed at the size of the his George Burger, (so amazed was he that he and his partner had their picture taken with their meals before tucking in to them), they also seemed to go down very well. For pudding I had a banana split (nice but a little more effort on presentation would have been good) and my wife had a very pleasant lemon sponge and custard. It was all served at a good pace by a charming, very efficient waitress in a very pleasant atmosphere enhanced by how full and lively the restaurant was. To top it all the final bill was very reasonable in deed for the amount and quality of the food we had enjoyed. All together a very good experience which we hope to repeat soon.
