“Nice area shame about the site”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2010

We went at the start of september 2010 and I have to say that the caravan park is in a beautiful setting and we were impressed with the beach. The caravan was OK - the carpet could have done with a clean and it was not perfect but we managed. However we were placed right next to the clubhouse and the noise on the saturday night ('cabaret') was unbelievable. I complained the next day as we had 1 and 3 yr old children with us but was told that I had asked for that specific caravan when I booked - rubbish! The takeaway was poor - incompetent staff and ridiculous prices with poor quality food but the regatta bar was OK. Most of the buildings are in poor state and desperately need updating. Pool was really good but you can tell that the lifeguards cannot be bothered. Kids clubhouse is really tatty and dirty but staff very good. cannot work out why kids entertainment is so late after the bingo! it is worth going to bigbury bay and burgh island as these are very attractive places.

“Enjoyable week - good value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2010

We spent a week at this caravan park in the middle of August. Weather was so so with several rainy days. I have often stayed at caravan parks so knew what to expect. Initially I was a bit put off as the vans are quite close together and the park does not look very up to date or well kept. My van was a 3 bed basic model but non smoking. I was not very impressed by the standard of cleaning as the van felt a bit sticky and could have been more thoroughly cleaned. My friend was staying in a smoking van with pets and her van was also not very clean with fag burns on the carpet. TV made a buzzing noise and you had to change the scart lead around in order to watch a DVD which was a bit annoying.

Having said all this we had a great a week at the park and might well return. Surrounding area was beautiful and there are lots of lovely walks to do from the park. I was there with two teenagers and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves doing surfing most days rain or shine. They also did scuba-driving one day with Tai in the swimming pool, if you wanted to take it to a higher level you can do a sea dive. Tai was really nice with the kids so I would definately recommend this.

We cooked all our food in the van in order to keep costs down - I would recommend doing a big supermarket shop before you get there because it is quite isolated. Club House provided the usual sort of entertainment which was fine - did not see any fights or bad behaviour while there. Staff were really nice and professional. My daughter cut her foot on a wine glass left on the floor by yours truly and the staff were extremely helpful in providing assistance.

Over all a great holiday and good for older kids who like the beach and trying new things! There is also a lot to do in the surrounding area.

“Waste of time and money.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2010

We've just come back from Challaborough a day early I may add,and I must say I wished i hadn't bothered. What a disgusting horrible site, if you don't own a van there then you've got no chance.Kids who have parents/grandparents who own their own think they own the place , swimming pool ok lifeguards tend to eye up the girls more then observing the pool. Amusements total crap floor all uneven and carpet ripped in places watch out in case you trip.Resturant/regatta bar food ridiculous prices be prepared to wait an hour plus we waited 1 hour 20 minutes and they still got the order wrong, plus all the seats were taken by folks using their laptops. Entertainment ok for 2 to 8 years after that forget it, most entertaining was the sad acts shouting out silly sayings at the numbers being called sad really. And last of all the caravan we hired a private one thinking we would have a much nicer van omg was we wrong it was cold, very damp, bear essentials, everytime you run the water the pipes would bang, there was a strong smell coming from the boiler, cooker was bodyh anyfilthy, door kept sticking, your clothes were damp it smelt and the windows we constantly covered in damp and they had the cheek to ask us to clean the caravan before we leave we stayed in Ermine 01 and booked through caravans for hire please don't book through these you get no response from any emails see nobody, and to top it all the lady who we booked through KIM FREEMAN couldn't be bothered to get the cheques we sent from the post office cause she was never at the office to sign for them and we had to pay £24 to cancel the cheques as the got lost' never dealt with such an incompitant person ever so rude but i'm sure she'll go far.Shall be informing Parkdean head office regarding certain subjects shame really its a beautiful setting.

“the challaborough washout”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

well what can i say. our first holiday in this country for 15 years & never again. where do we begin? i'll start with the caravan, looked old & shabby from the outside, cold & damp in the bedrooms. we had a 11 week old baby that we had to lift in & out the caravan in her pram cos of the steps. The food in the regatta bar was poor, especially after waiting an hour for it. went to the chippy & paid outrageous prices for a mini fish & chips, £5. mini sasauge & chips, £3. went to get an ice cream & had the shock of my life when i asked for some juice on my 99 & was told it was 20p extra. what is wrong with some people. you pay £850 bucks for a caravan on there site & they wanna charge you 20p for a bit o juice on your ice cream. The club entertainment was so so, prices for drinks was yet again rip off prices. £4 for a bottle o magners, £4 for a lge glass of wine. if you want a seat you better get in there early with the bingo bashers at 6.30. get there at 8.30 & your strugglin for a seat. DO NOT have a pizza from the big munch eatery in the club. never seen so much grease on a pizza in me life, TERRIBLE. Arcade needs updating & once again pram or wheelchair access very difficult. swimming baths was not too bad, tots pool could of been a bit warmer but the baby did'nt complain, well she is only 11 weeks & can't talk yet lol. The lanes leading in & out of challoborough are very challenging, if your a bit of a nervous driver start biting your nails. i diverted off the 1 road with my sat-nav & was taken down a road very much like a gully. even for a driver with extraordinary driving skills like mine it was a bit testing.. The weather was also poor, 2 days of sun & wind & the rest was rain. The positive point was coming back 2 days early to get away from all the rain. Abroad for me from now on. If you've booked & paid, good luck...

“Don't Bother!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2010

From the outside the caravan was clearly very old and had seen better days! we were given a 3 bed fulmar caravan. The master bedroom stank of stale smoke and the carpet had some disgusting stains on it! Very off putting. The bathroom door didn't shut properly and needed to be relplaced and the original lock was missing. The dining table had chewing gum stuck to it's underneath, YUK! The fridge was clearly on it's last legs, it had rust on the doors and a major crack across the top of it. The T.V had a really annoying buzzing sound when turned on and the D.V.D player didn't work. The radio's aerial was broke and you could only get 1 station.
However there are some good points for the park, the regatta bar terrace was very nice, the takeaway was O.K, the swimming pool was good, my children really enjoyed it. The entertainment was what you expect! The soft play area was in need of a makeover, it was very dated! There was no outside play area for children to play any ball games, or any swings. The only play area was a pirate ship which got very crowded at times!
Considering we paid peek season prices,we feel really let down. We will not be visiting this holiday park at all again, mainly due to the accomodation provided!
If you find another park to stay on the area is well worth visiting!
