“Planning our return stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2011

We last stayed here 20 years ago and I was a little worried I would be disappointed. Not so, it is even better than I remembered. The rooms have been beautifully refurbished, the staff are extremely polite and friendly and the food is delicious.

Stayed here for a few nights with my boyfriend. Rooms were very comfortable. As some have mentioned, the stairs leading up to the rooms are a bit dirty, but that is to be expected with everyone coming in off the beach!!
You are less than 5 minutes down to Bantham Beach which is gorgeous!
The food in the Sloop Inn is fantastic. The main pub menu has all the clasics you would expect, and the specials are exceptional!! The breakfast that is included is delicious and very substantial.
I would highly recommend this as a cosy retreat down on the coast.

Right on the coast path and convenient for the Avon ferry. Outstanding food - both supper (seafood) and breakfast. A bit short-staffed so the service was slow, but food quality wasn't compromised.

This offers good basic accommodation for walkers and would be fine for a longer stay if most of your time was going to be spent out-of-doors. Our room was clean, comfortable and a reasonable size; the breakfasts were good and there was life music on one of the evenings we spent there. The hotel even did some laundry for us at no extra cost! The village is a great place for a holiday if you like sea and sand and walking.

We stayed at The Sloop for a week, found the staff to be polite and helpful. We have a small baby and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. I would certainly recommend staying here to anyone I know. Actually I would recommend it to people I don't know too.

The food was amazing!!!!!!!! Posh pub prices, but I do not begrudge that when it is sooo good. The freshly caught fish dishes are stunning!

xxxxxxx

After day at Bantham beach during half term we visited The Sloop Inn. We were two families and sat at one of the few tables without a reserved sign on it, tucked around the corner from the bar. Bought drinks and whilst looking at the menu a member of staff told us quite firmly that we would have to move as children under 14 could not sit at the bar. This is fine but why not find us a table and then help us to move to encourage us to stay and eat. Your loss Sloop Inn as our party of 8 left and had dinner elsewhere. Interestingly their website states 'we welcome children and dogs in all areas of the Inn'. Really?

I stayed at the Sloop on the 16th May, and I really love the place. I've stayed in many hotels around the world, and what you may not get perfection, what you will get is a really cosy place to stay with friendly staff in an amazing location.

I was walking the next day and got a great meal, a good nights sleep and a good breakfast. I found the staff friendly and made me feel very welcome for the short time I was there. I agree with the other reviewer that the entrance was being renovated when I came in - perhaps a good idea would have been to actually put a sign up explaining things.

Thanks for a great stay
