“Very nice location in a quite "old" hotel”

Imperial Hotel

Jul 19, 2008

Stayed one night in this hotel located on the west coast of Guernsey.
Location is very nice, directly on the beach in a very big bay.
Concerning the hotel by itself: it is not a new one, and it is quite obvious when you enter in you room ! The rooms are clean, but everything seems to be 20 or 30 years old.
On the other hand the restaurant is very nice, food is very good and well served. Half of the tables in the restaurant have a view on the beach.
Staff is friendly, and the overall price is quite reasonable fo Guernsey.
You can park your car for free in front on the hotel, and there is a bus stop just in front also. There is a bar open till midnight.

This is a 2 star rated hotel. The best thing about the hotel is the views which are lovely. The place itself is shabby and could do with some tlc. Our bedroom was clean but small and the bathroom just had a shower and a tiny, tiny sink.It overlooked the back of the hotel but at least it was quiet.
We ate breakfast in the hotel and this was very good as it was freshly cooked and the staff were very obliging. We had one evening meal in the hotel and this was nothing special.
There is a public bar attached to the hotel but we only went in this once as it was horrible. We were also served flat Coca Cola but as the guy serving it was gi-normous we didn't like to complain!
The bus stops just outside the hotel but we took advantage of the car hire that was included in our package. There is a nice kiosk near the hotel that is very reasonably priced and overlooks the bay.
We wouldn't stay here again but as hotels in the Channel Isles tend to be over-priced we thought this may be OK and that about sums it up. In hindsight we would have booked one night here and then tried somewhere else.

This hotel was booked for us as present for our first Wedding Anniversay. The views from our room were amazing as we were overlooking the bay and the service and food were wonderful. The bathroom in our room did need a little TLC but the views from the bedroom definately made up for it.

The hotels location was suberb with lovely walks and views as soon as you exited the hotel.

I would certainly visit this hotel and Guernsey again.

“Mostly good”

We go for walking holidays on Guernsey every few years. We chose the Imperial because it is perfectly placed at the western end of the south coast coastal path.
We had a second floor room with an excellent sea view. The room was not perfectly clean on arrival, but as we were early, possibly cleaning had been hurried to accommodate us. The room was adequately equipped although the shower plumbing was overdue for attention. The most obvious shortcoming was that although the room was tidied daily, it was not swept or vacuumed during our stay. Some polystyrene fragments in the cupboard were dislodged by our cases when we arrived, and remained an undisturbed floor decoration until we left. It would probably have been swept if we had complained, but I had a manager’s curiosity to see when the appropriate system would pick up the omission. Replenishment of the courteousy tray was overlooked a couple of times.
Unfortunately the stair carpet and the second floor landing carpets were fairly spectacularly stained giving a poor impression on the approach to the room. The room carpet itself was, however, OK. The chair in the room had a torn seat cover, but oddly there were three otherwise identical chairs in the hallway outside in good order. Why?
We were on half board. Our table had a lovely view over the bay. The food was generally good, always generous, and occasionally excellent. A couple of times it failed (particularly the vegetable curry!), but overall the table d’hôte menu was very good value for money. Table service was charming, unfailingly courteous and helpful.
Generally we had a pleasant stay, marred somewhat by lack of sufficient room management. If that can be ramped up with proper self evaluation and checking systems, this hotel should be able to exceed the expectations of its star rating.

“Location”

Imperial Hotel

My wife and I stayed for 10 days at The Imperial. The location is right on the bay and superb, try for a room with a sea view, it is better than the TV. Food was good with a choice of restaurant or pub, a lot of locals seemed to use it, so that is a good recommendation. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Only slight downside is the hotel could do with some updating of the decor but is very clean and comfortable. Price includes either a hire car or bus pass, bus stop across the road and is good value. Would recommend this hotel and have no hesitation in returning.
