“Give it a miss”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2011

I ordered a mushroom risotto what was delivered was a plate of boiled rice and tinned button mushrooms. When i complained the host said it was a regional italian dish, when i told him i was Italian and not a tourist and was entertaining locals he was stuck for words. I did not get another dish or my money back. Service was poor and the price over the top as the restaurant has sea views. Give it a miss this is a tourist rip off no good Italian food.

“Fantastic Old Fashioned Italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

A warm welcome always awaits you at Da Bruno. The setting is old fashioned but somehow comforting like going back in time to a happy memory.

Bruno and his wife are always so welcoming

The food is quite delicious with fresh ingredients at reasonable prices.

As avid Spurs supporters best to avoid evenings when Spurs are playing! howver if you get talking to Bruno and his wife and the restaurant is not too busy then suddenly the booze starts flowing as well as the stories.

Everyone I know who goes is always wowed by the quality of the food and the warmth of the welcome.

“Don't knock old fashioned. A warm welcome and decent food await...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

Da Bruno is next door to Riva on the North Esplanade, a small trattoria on the first floor. We chose it over Riva because we liked the menu better. We had not made a reservation but were warmly welcomed and shown to a booth next to the window. We were quickly served with a bottle of water and a half of house white (Sicilian at £10.50, not cheap but very decent) while we reviewed the menu. Bruno himself was ‘’ front of house’’ and came to take our order. We noted that the menu was different to one in the window downstairs that had attracted us (new that day!) but Bruno was happy to have us order from the old menu.
There are dishes from all over Italy though the decor and pictures are of Venice. We started with a very good bruschetta and a pasta with pesto (OK but lacking in salt) while for main, I had a mixed fish grill and J had a large bowl of pasta with pesto. I had a decent selection of fish and this was accompanied by new potatoes and vegetables (no additional charge).
We finished with a glass of vin santo (Bruno swore it was his own) and cantucci, with an excellent espresso.
This wasn’t a cheap meal but the welcome we received and the warm thank you, spoken as we left, was a reminder that traditional values of service are not dead on Guernsey. For this I would recommend Da Bruno, offering simple Italian food, in simple surroundings, a restaurant that has not succumbed to modern fads.
