“A most memorable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2011

Absolutely brillant. You will discover Victor Hugo as you never had before. His house is a masterpiece. His imagination in decorating is out of this world. The view from the house onto the sea takes back to Victor Hugo's days, to the days when he wrote Les Miserables. The garden is also well worth visiting.

“A real experience.”

Such a strange place, visiting it was a great experience. A look inside the mind of Victor Hugo. Great tour guide. Remember to make an appointment.

Had no idea what a fascinating house Victor Hugo's home would be. Each room was a surprise to behold. I highly recommend visiting.

“A must do unique quirky and fascinating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

Step back into a time capsule and be prepared for an assualt on your senses! Victor Hugo's house in St Peter Port is a must visit - the guides are knowledgeable and informative but the real treasure is the immaculately preserved interior of the house.
Well worth taking an hour out of a holiday to see something unique.

“Nearly Haunted Hauteville”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

The house is dark and gloomy when you first step in, leaving you thinking, "Couldn't they have lightened things up around here?" But Hugo does, himself, transform the abode from moment to moment, so that by the end of your guided tour, you're looking out at the most spectacular and refreshing view of St. Peter's Port--a view replete with sights of Hugo's lover's home, as well as the desk upon which the renowned French author wrote Les Miserables. Hugo was relatively unknown for his DIY decorating and design, and this attraction will certainly fill you in on the details. From chandeliers built from bobbins, to secret darkrooms hidden behind tapestry walls, every step of the way has something fascinating to figure out. Because of Hugo's interest in spiritualism and mysticism, you'll feel at some points that the ghost of Hugo is right there with you in the room--or at least the 'spirit chair' reserved for Hugo's ancestors in the dining room will remind you that dead family members are still family members, nonetheless. Keep your eye open, while you are on the guided tour, for latin mantras and thoughts stencilled into walls and tiles... everywhere!
