My family of four stayed in one of the apartments at La Barbarie. We reserved a “self-catering” apartment, which meant we paid for our meals at the hotel when we decided to eat there. With a full kitchen in the apartment, we figured we would make our own breakfasts. All it took was one morning eating in the restaurant to know we should’ve reserved the room with meals included. We ate every breakfast and dinner at the hotel’s marvelous restaurant. Best croissants in the world! We ate in the dining room and had room service. Every meal was outstanding. The children’s menu worked really well for our kids.
The apartment has two bedrooms, a living room, which is really a big room with the kitchen and table in it. Our upstairs apartment had a balcony overlooking the swimming pool. It was a spacious place to spend several days, not fancy at all, but comfortable. The bathroom is huge, and despite a warning from the hotel guide, the plumbing worked fine. The kids really enjoyed the swimming pool, which, like the apartment, was nothing fancy. The bar and garden by the pool has wireless Internet service. I enjoyed sitting outside with a drink, surfing the Internet, and watching my happy kids swim in the pool, chatting with other hotel guests. It has a clientele that obviously returns every time they are in Guernsey, and if I find myself on the island again, I know I will be staying at La Barbarie.
