My husband and I stayed for 5 nights. The food was excellent and the restaurant and front desk staff was very professional. One of the best of any hotel we have stayed. Bus stops across the road and runs frequently to St. Peter Port. Room was average, but very clean. We didn't use the swimming pool so can't comment on that. Only fault is the nearby airport runway with planes taking off starting at 6 a.m. In spite of this, we would stay again.

    • Disliked — Noisy airplanes landing and taking off at early morning and late evening hours

Having lived in Guernsey for six years and being away for 5, I was looking forward to the modernised hotel. Spacious car park, a lovely pool and health suite and the restaurant in a large conservatory. The food was good and the service in the restaurant for the first two nights (of ten) excellent. However a party of about 20 sixth-formers descended on the hotel and all that changed. Within 24 hours the lift broke down and remained so for the rest of my stay. No apologies or explanation from the hotel reception, true I didn't ask why, but one shouldn't have to. Each morning I went for breakfast I was shown to a different table. The outstanding table attendant was removed to wait on the sixth-formers leaving inexperienced staff and for dinner it was the same. One night I seemed to be segregated at one end of the restaurant whilst between me and the other diners a waiter vacuumed the carpet. The room was a good size and the bed comfortable. For a solo traveller I had a pleasant view overthe car park and the coloured lights lent a holiday feel. I could not recommend this hotel and would never stay there again.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — clean and comfortable room
    • Disliked — Laclustre reception and poor service in the restaurant
    • Tips/Secrets: — Don't stay here. There are hotels in Guernsey that offer a service this seemed to be lacking here.

“Superb Hotel”

La Trelade Country House Hotel

I have just returned from a 4-night stay at La Trelade. I was in a party of 6 adults and 1 child, between us we have stayed in many hotels all around the globe and we all agreed that this Hotel was excellent.
The hotel is set in attractive grounds with ample parking, there are plenty of places to sit and relax both indoors and out. The location is good for exploring the island, which is beautiful.
All the staff were polite, friendly and very helpful. The rooms were very nicely decorated and clean, our room was very warm but we asked for a fan and got one immediately. The hotel is close to the airport and there is noise from planes but as the planes are small it is not intrusive, our daughter thought it was great and waved to the planes as they passed. I am a very light sleeper and we had the window open each night but as the planes don't fly at night I wasn't disturbed once.
I would recommend staying on a Half Board basis, as the food is superb and very well presented (compliments to the Chef).
The Swimming Pool is great, bigger than we expected with plenty of loungers and chairs to relax in and an outside deck area for sun bathing.
Guernsey itself is excellent for a traditional family holiday; the general feeling you get is safe and friendly. There are many sandy beaches but no crowds and it is also great for Rock pools.
We would definitely visit Guernsey and this hotel again.

“Distinctly average”

La Trelade Country House Hotel

We went to Guernsey as a last minute thought for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend. We booked it through Island Getaways which were reasonably priced and offered us the La Trelade as a good hotel to stay in, after looking at the reviews on Trip Advisor we decided that it was just the thing we were looking for. Sadly it was not. The rooms were pokey and without air conditioning and therefore quite stuffy this did cause a slight problem as you really had to keep a window open which would normally be fine if you were not directly under the runway flightpath for the airport, and the cold water in the bathrooms was tepid at the best of times. The restaurant food was not good (a visit from Gordon Ramsey should do the trick) although the desserts did look rather good. Breakfast was also a disappointment. The staff were ok but were never going to win any hospitality awards (but saying that if i had to work over a bank holiday i would be rather cheesed off!). I can only think that some of the "excellent staff" write ups were indeed written by the staff!!

The leisure facilities were very good, the pool was a decent size and a good temperature and the rest of the leisure complex was kept clean and tidy at all times.

Guernsey itself is very pretty but not really geared up for the tourist trade which has its advantages and disadvantages. Its a lovely place to go for long walks along the cliff paths, the beaches were rather rocky but the water was crystal clear, and in general the whole Island was clean. There are some really nice places to eat and would deffinately suggest having a meal at The Boathouse in St Peter Port, excellent sevice and food.

WOW,what a wonderful secret we discovered! This hotel must be one of the best well kept secrets on the island.
We stayed on Guernsey for a spring break for 3 nights from 2nd April 2006. We arrived just after 1pm, officially before check in time but, our room was ready & what a room! It was a beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean large double-aspect room with large four-poster bed.I won't give the room number because then everyone will want it. The bathroom furniture was Villeroy & Bosh.It took our breath away.
We had delicious smoked salmon sandwiches with tortilla chips & fresh looking & tasting salad served on modern square white plates, in the tastefully decorated bar for lunch on the day we arrived.Good value, £5. We chose to eat in the hotel each evening but, decided against the 'full' dinner & had the 'lighter options' e.g locally caught plaice(£8.95) tiger prawns & pasta (£8.50 I think)'cock & bull'(teriakyi, £7.50).All delicious, beautifully presented & excellent value. We decided to have a glass of red wine on the first evening but, we didn't want the choice offered on the menu of wine sold by the glass. 'No problem' said the mine of information & ever helpful Damien the barman. He suggested that we chose a bottle of what we fancied & then had the remainder another evening. He sold less wine but, he has ensured that we shall return & also recommend this hotel to our family & friends. A very good investment don't you think?
The photos on the website we looked at do not do justice to the pool. The health suite contains the swimming pool with much of the roof being glass panels which ensures plenty of light & doors that open onto a small patio/terrace styled area, enough to sit outside & enjoy the sun. The area around the pool is spacious with plenty of quality sunloungers to sit & relax if you wish. The steam room & sauna were also good, we didn't use the gym equipment but, other guests were. The changing facilities were scrupulously clean & robes & towels were provided. Using the pool on the first morning, we didn't realise that lockers were operated by refundable £1 coins. The chap on duty lent us a £1 coin each. Thanks!
Some of the staff were a little reserved but, all were efficient & friendly. The icing on the cake as far as staff are concerned is the barman Damien who is a real asset to the establishment.
The hotel is a mile from the airport but, we didn't find this a problem as half the time we didn't notice the planes, & when you do hear them it a like a little fly going by in 4 seconds. Deal with it. A lot depends on the direction of the wind so therefore this will encompass various hotels.
We could not fault this hotel on cleanliness throughout the whole establishment, value for money, location, facilities & staff. We have stayed in many London hotels & in our experience this hotel is up with many of the well-known names.
We hope that the hotel does not rest on its laurels but, strives to maintain the standards that we have enjoyed.
P.S. We do not stay in hotels that do not have favourable reports written about them by 'Tripadvisor' visitors.
