Just come back from a 4 night Easter stay at La Trelade and I just felt that I had to write about the great time we had. For a 3 star hotel, this place is great.
We stayed in an executive room for a bit more cash, which had a lovely four-poster bed in it. The room was a great size with lots of wardrobe and drawer space, a pair of lounge chairs and a coffee table, TV and tea and coffee making facilities (tea (fruit, mint, earl grey & regular), coffee, hot chocolate and shortbread biscuits) all replenished every day. The bathroom was a good size too with plenty of towels.
Breakfast was also great, with the usual selection of cereal, fruit, pastries, continental cheeses, hams etc. and a variety of cooked options including smoked salmon scrambled eggs or poached eggs on toast etc. We had the full english everyday and it was very good quality and kept us going all day whilst we roamed around the Guernsey countryside!
We didn't use the Health Spa but they have a pool, sauna, gym and a lady who comes in at weekends to do massages etc. all of which is included in the room cost (apart from the massages which were half the price that I've paid at other hotels before so seem good value).
We ate in the hotel restaurant for one of the nights and again the food was superb. They do a set 3 course menu which changes everyday, as well as an a la carte and a bar snacks menu so plenty to choose from. We had the set menu at £17.95 each (inc. coffee), this included dishes like monkfish in parma ham, roast pork loin, smoked duck starters and fruit cheesecakes and chocolate tarts for pudding.
The staff at the hotel were very chatty and helpful. Most of the waiting staff and reception were of Eastern European orgin, not sure where, but they all spoke good English and were very prompt with service so no complaints.
In summary, I'm very pleased we chose this hotel, it surpassed my expectations and if we ever return to Guernsey for a holiday I will have no hesitation at booking La Trelade again or recommending it to friends.
The only thing I would say for some people is that like a lot of the island you can hear the planes going over head but this didn't bother me and my husband and didn't disturb our sleep as we didn't start to notice them until we stirred at about 7:30 - 8 am when we were planning on getting up anyway. If you don't want that, and late sleepers may not, then you need a hotel in St Peter Port and not St Martins as the airport is right in St Martins. I would not let this put you off La Trelade though, invest in some ear plugs as this hotel is worth it.
