I stayed here in winter 2006. I had a single room on the ground floor. Contrary to some of the other rooms (judging by reviews), my room was newly decorated. The bathroom was brand new.
The room was small but comfortable and adequate for a solo traveller.
Dinner was pretty disappointing, especially with smoke drifting across into the dining area from the bar area.
Service at breakfast was appalling; I thought a cooked breakfast was included in the tariff, though it was never offered to me.
Service at reception was friendly.
Overall an average experience.

Stayed here for three nights in August 2006 (2 adults and 2 young children) - first impression great...BUT...no lift and we had a small room up two windy flights of stairs. No one offered help with luggage so we managed alone but it could be a real problem for anyone with mobility difficulties. Room clean but very cramped - second childs bed was a put-you-up meaning barely enough room to get by never mind open wardrobe doors. Decor dated and air conditioning unit extremely loud.

Breakfast a real rush job - no chance to finish your cereal before cooked food arrived and that was very fatty. Not all the tables are laid up for breakfast so we wondered if they try to move you through as fast as possible to make space for next diners.

Poor (heated outdoor) nice and clean, grounds excellent and the half board evening menu superb - totally different experience to the breakfast rush.

Biggest plus was undoubtedly the staff - most were cheerful, helpful and always willing to chat to the kids - one or two younger waiting staff a bit brusque but this could be a language problem as most were from overseas.

Guernsey is a wonderful place and we will undoubtedly go back but probably not to this hotel.

This hotel has so much potential, but sadly it has not been maintained properly. We had a superior room, size was fine, but no luxuries or personal touches (apart from fresh flowers). The shower was totally inadequate, the toilet seat broken, and the general noise in the hotel above and around the room was too much for us (we almost checked out).
If only the owners would invest in this hotel, give it a poolside bar/snack area, BBQs days/evenings, create a warm inviting atmostphere in the bar (nobody stayed in the bar, we were shocked at the total lack of atmosphere), get rid of the smell of fat when you walk into the carvery (it really puts you off the bar area), and generally update the place.
We also found the staff to be quite miserable and unwelcoming the first 2 nights, but this did improve somewhat our last 2 days.
As I say, it is a shame, as this hotel has so much potential but this has not been taken advantage of.

I have stayed 7 nights in the le Friquet country hotel. 4 nights in an appartment and 3 nights in the conservatory suite. The appartment was very big and equipped with the usual luxury. It seemed very cosy as it is just under the roof. The conservatory suite is absolutely outstanding. The nicest hotel room I have ever seen, and has, as the name already states, its own conservatory. Absolutely fantastic.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant delicious.

“disappointing”

Le Friquet Country Hotel

Just spent 4 days in a very wet Guernsey. Spent our 4 nights in a an apartment in the Hotel Le Friquet. It was very disappointing. The apartment was old fashioned and tired looking and not particularly clean. The breakfast was also not much to write home about, and I did have a slug which was still alive in my main meal in the evening whcih I sent back, unfortunately no apology came forward and I was billed full price for this.
It's certtainly not a place I would reccommend to anyone. We also found the Island less than welcoming and wouldn't bother with going back.
Staffing levels were low and at times positveley rude.
