We stayed at the Fort D'Auvergne in August 2010. The hotel staff and management were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Restaurant excellent value of money. Ideally situated for all visitors and the town centre is only 10 minutes away.
Would recommend and we will definately be back next year.

just stayed for 4 nites as part of our honeymoon at the hotel ( 29th aug > 2nd sept)
we just wanted a nice chilled relaxing break and that what we got staff & service was second to none nothing was to much trouble, Rooms were a bit small but was what we expexted for the price (room cleaned everyday) Do agree that the floorboards squeak & paper thin walls but had worse in 4star hotels abroad. make sure you a seaview room as the views are amazing.breakfasts were lovely & plentyfuly ,we had a few evening meals they were not to our taste but they were nice the cavery on tues nite was lovely
would reccommend for a short break & value for money

We stayed here between the 19 - 23 August 10.

This has the potential to be a very nice place to stay, however

Room floor boards squeak, like you would not believe. So any room occupied above yours made your own personal space no longer yours.

For no explanation the hotel is a mini oven and although the heating has been off for months the heat in the rooms and corridors felt very uncomfortable. No Air Con. (Window issue to follow later)

The entertainment on the Sunday night was not to our choice so when we returned to the hotel at 10.30pm we had a drink then went to our rooms 10.40. I phoned reception and asked for the volume to be turned down and the lady said “Yes the music will stop at 11.15”. That was not the request and after repeating the fact, I got no satisfaction. My partner filled the sink in the bathroom for a wash and the water was actually vibrating to the beat of the music. So she went down and told the Assistant Manager that this was unacceptable and again the request to stop or turn it down was ignored. At 11.15 it stopped. A guest should not be able to hear the music, certainly to the extent we could, in their room. Your room is your space we treat that just like being at home.

The one issue that must be rectified, which is not a hotel problem directly but is definitely spoiling it for future guests are the drunken idiots who plague the “shelter” areas directly to the side of the hotel. They ranged in age from 12 to 50 some where local kids and some were, from the language heard are Polish staff from other hotels.

Every night for our stay the Police were chasing their tails trying to take the alcohol off the children or move the drunks along. Staff in other restaurants and pubs along the road said this is a nightly occurrence.

From our point of view, Room 4 is directly over the sheltered area and the noise every night into the early hours was quite disturbing, and due to the heat in the rooms we could not close the windows to drown the noise out, without melting in the room.

Again this is not a hotel problem as such but, the drunken idiots come up to the side window and peer into the bar area. A number of guests laughed it off but from conversations later they felt quite disturbed by it. “This is not what we paid for”.

One very positive about a Restaurant, directly opposite the hotel called Moita's Bistro (Portuguese and Continental) where ever you stop on the Island this is a must, absolutely fantastic food, atmosphere and staff. You have to book
