“MAYFAIR HOTEL JERSEY”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

We stayed at the Mayfair for one week as part of an Angus holiday. We had a good weeks stay, The room was clean and well furnished. The bath room was also very clean and it was lovely to have the option of a soak in the bath after a full days walking.. The housekeeping and the restaurant staff were very friendly. The reception was fairly good but could do a little better. The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal was also very good. For me being a vegetarian it was nice to have two choices on a fixed menu. It was very warm while we were staying and I think the bedrooms could do with air conditioning. I believe fans were available. The Mayfair is a fair walk from the town and the harbour but doable. I cannot coment on the pool as we did not use it.

We had an enjoyable week at this hotel having stayed a couple of times before a few years before. It was nice to see that most public areas and the rooms have been remodelled. We stayed B&B but enjoyed a couple of reasonably priced meals in the bar where the evenings restaurant menu is bolstered by regular pub type choices like scampi and chips. You can opt to eat in the dining room some nights should you wish and there was a deal on offer on arrival. The coffee shop was good too.

All the staff were friendly professional and obliging, and even made up our room in the evening after we forgot to take the do not disturb sign off the door earlier.

Breakfast was fine though I prefer a full buffet (cereals, fruit and continental breakfast are self serve but hot food is waiter service). It would doubtless be manic though particularly given the older crowd and walking stick users the hotel is popular with. Several waiters had limited English but no real issues and the head waiter runs a tight ship.

We used the pool and health club a few times and its a great facility, if a little tired.

Our only real complaint was how hot and stuffy the bedroom was, as some others have mentioned. The heating was off and we weren't above the kitchens so it might be the electric towel rails causing all the heat and humidity? We could hardly sleep the first night but luckily found a fan to use which made it just about bearable with the window open (meaning traffic noise from a main road). I guess fans are available on request.

Wifi was available in the bar and near reception, but was unusable at busy times, so don't bank on it for anything important. There were a couple of web browser PCs to use, though one had a faulty screen making it hard to view.

A good, well appointed, solid hotel with professional staff that offers good value for money.

We recently stayed at The Mayfair, Jersey as part of a holiday package through Leger Holidays. We had an excellent stay, our room was very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with bath and shower available, and plenty of hot water! The check in at Reception was very easy, quick and staff were friendly and welcoming. Our stay was on a half board basis and this is where The Mayfair really scored with us - the breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of cereals and fruit etc to start with self served, then a really good choice of full english breakfast, eggs, porridge even kippers served to your table. You could even vary the "mix" on your served breakfast without any difficulty, as the waiter service was excellent - courteous, friendly, attentive and fast! (well done to our waiter Nicholas) From the first day of our stay we were allocated a table that was "ours" for all meals - this made things so easy and relaxed when coming to the restaurant to eat. The dinner service was just the same high standard with a good mix of choices available, which we have to say were all well prepared, and served hot to your table. We also made use of the swimming pool, and the Coffee Bar whilst at The Mayfair and once again found these to be of a high standard. The Mayfair is fairly centrally located and you could walk there in 10 minutes - my wife was struggling with a recovering torn knee ligament but even she could "hobble" it in 15 minutes! Failing that the local bus can be used from very near to the hotel entrance and is very reasonable on price as are all the Jersey buses. We would not hesitate to recommend The Mayfair to anyone and certainly would be more than happy to stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room like we did in advance -- and we got it!

We stayed late sept, half board, when the weather was cooler - about 16oC most days and some rain. As noted by many other reviewers the bedroom we stayed in was very warm even with the window wide open. For this reason we would not return to this hotel. We were on the third floor and did overlook the dining room where the evening entertainment took place. (at the back of the hotel) However this did not bother us, as the noise from the evening entertainment ended at 11pm. We went to the entertainment and found it to be ok, good value at the price we were paying. Bingo and a night at the races were on every night along with live groups, singers and a magician who was very good. We were near the lift and worried that we would hear this at night but we did not. The swimming pool was small but very adequate and the changing area clean and tidy with showers. We found the staff in the hotel very helpful even though they were very busy. The food at breakfast and in the evening was good - plain, not exotic with a vegetarian option every evening. Service was generally very quick. The hotel also had a washing machine, dryer and ironing room available for guest use. (token and powder purchased from reception.) There was a pool table and a couple of games consoles for guest use too. Public transport on the island was excellent. We took an organised tour from the hotel initially to find our feet and see where we might like to go back too. After this we used the bus service which dropped you off outside most of the main tourist attractions. Day trips to France, Guernsey can also be arranged for you by the hotel.

This hotel was busy but comfortable, very nice room with walk in shower as requested. The food was good, we had booked for breakfast but had four dinners too. The staff were cheerful and worked very hard especially the dining room staff. Reception were welcoming and helpful.
The only criticism was the distance from the centre and the bus station for the less active, but apart from that an excellent break.

The hotel was simply first class as far as my wife and I were concerned. We booked BB but were offered a 4 day deal for evening meals which we took as it was such good valued. Breakfast was excellent, basically anything you could possibly want, not just continental and "Full Momty" but porridge was on offer as were kippers! The evening meals were a choice of starter followed by soup and then a good choice of main course including vegetarian. This was followed by choices of sweet or cheese and biscuits and tea or coffee.
The bar was well stocked and the service swift and efficient, whilst the entertainment was amazing considering the price paid. The staff throughout were friendly and efficient and my wife and I would come back in a flash if the temperature in the bedrooms could be lowered! No radiator on, window open and still over 70 degrees. Heaven only knows where the heat was coming from. It is the ONLY reason we did not give it 5 stars.
We will go back to St Helier but we will probably try the Metropole to see if its bedrooms are a bit cooler!

Room Tip: From what I gathered ALL the bedrooms were very warm.

This hotel was clean, comfortable and very central - within walking distance from lots of attractions. Car parking was small but we always managed to squeeze in somewhere, The rooms were spotless with maids coming in on a daily basis. There was no air conditioning but we managed to acquire a fan which made a big difference. The food was basic but varied and always freshly prepared. The staff were always cheerful and eager to help in any way. Would definitely stay here again - great value for money.
