“not a bad hotel really”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Mayfair, while in the main the hotel was vey nice and indeed pleasant there were some issues, my advice to restaurant staff in particular would be, if you have issues with each other keep it away from the public,.also there were some maintainance matters that needed attended to.bedrooms were indeed adequate but beds were not very comfortable, and we didn't get much sleep simply because the room was far too warm. food was very good and adequate though, and we found the reception staff very nice and helpful. I would agree there appears to be a touch of complacency creeping in.

we stayed begining of September for 7 days and there were 4 adults in our party. We were not expecting the hotel to be as good as it was! The whole hotel was very clean and the staff cheerful and helpful. We stayed on a half board basis and this did not disappoint. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was plentyful and tasty. The entertainment was very varied and we're still repeating some of the comedian's jokes!! Our young cleaner hoovered and cleaned every day and the room was left spotless. The only downside was that the rooms are very warm/hot. Saying that, there were plenty of fans on offer. We propped the door open in the daytime when we were in and that caused a nice draft! Also took the duvet out of the cover and just used the cover! We would all most certainly recommend this hotel.

Just returned from 6 days at The Mayfair and have absolutely no complaints. On arrival the Reception staff were very helpful and our room was absolutely spotless like the rest of the hotel. We had a large double bed made up as a double bed, not 2 singles pushed together, a single bed, flat screen television, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and lots of hangers in the wardrobe. The bathroom was immaculate with an overbath shower.

This is a busy hotel so the dining room is large with tables close together and how nice to have waiter service instead of a buffet. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice, dinner was 4 courses and was good and wholesome.

The evening entertainment wasn’t to our taste but lots of people seemed to enjoy it.

As well as free Wifi , there were two computers in the foyer which weren’t too busy and an information area with lots of leaflets and news of events happening nearby.

The hotel is centrally located with the bus stop to Gerald Durrell’s zoo just around the corner. Within walking distance was the indoor market (not to be missed), lots of shops, Liberation Square and the harbour. From there you can get a little road train to St Aubin’s Bay or a bus from the bus station to anywhere on the island.

Can’t comment on the other facilities in the hotel such as the pool, games room etc as we didn’t use them but overall we think this hotel deserves more than 3 stars and we will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: Some rooms have walk-in showers so if you have difficulty climbing into a bath, ask for one of those...

Our first time in Jersey and it didn't disappoint. The Mayfair Hotel was very clean. staff very welcoming and friendly. Our room was ample. Good powerful shower. Housekeeping every day was thorough. Although the room was hot at night, I would rather that than being cold!! We stayed on a half board basis.
Breakfast was tremendous- as our dining companions said "if you are still hungry after breakfast you only have yourself to blame!" There was plenty of choice from various cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, croissants, ham, cheese, crusty rolls. THEN you could have full english breakfast or porridge or even smoked kippers. tea or coffee with toast also served. Only criticism was the tea was very weak and a very funny colour once the milk was added!
Evening meals were very tasty and varied. 4 courses - choice of 2 starters, followed by soup. then choice of 4 main meals, and 3 desserts or the cheeseboard.
Our Waitress was very harassed as she had many tables to serve but was very helpful.
Evening entertainment was as you expect for the hotel which catered mainly to over 60's (we are just 50!), but still enjoyed it. also won £20.00 on the bingo :). We will probably come back when we are in our sixties, but would recommend the Hotel and jersey to everyone.

Room Tip: Our room was overlooking a roof which initially was disappointing, but after chatting to others we w...

This hotel could not be faulted and the staff were extremely helpful. They helped me to open my case on arrival (it had given up the ghost) and took it away for disposal when I bought a new one. The Lift was a great help for me with my walking problems and I had a walk in shower in my bedroom which was comfortable and quiet. The food was great with a full english in the morning and 4 courses in the evening which were very well presented. Our waiter, Peter, was very helpful and cheerful. The hotel itself was a 10 minute walk to Liveration Square most of it flat. Would recommend this hotel to all.

Arrived on 7th September for a 5 night stay as a package deal with Chandlers Coach Holidays of Westbury, Wiltshire.

The staff were very obliging, the rooms were very good, clean and well supplied with coffee, tea, milk and chocolate drink satchets. The food was excellent and plentiful and the restaurant staff would set an example of service that would be the envy of any major hotel.

Perhaps air conditioning would be a necessity in the hot summer months but was fine without it during my stay. The WIFI only worked in the foyer and was slow if you could even get on at all. But a lovely place to stay and we will be returning.

Room Tip: 1st floor also leads to the Spa, Pool, Jaccuzzi, Sun Roof,Gym and Steam Room

I stayed here for three nights with a friend in a double room (two single beds pushed together). Very central location, good for exploring St Helier. Great location for the bus system to beaches etc.
We stayed on a B&B basis. The breakfast was basic but quick and friendly service. No "Do not disturb" signs in the rooms so we did have housekeeping bursting in while we were still in bed! Lovely pool and gym which we made good use of. Free internet in the lobby and coffee shop which we were able to access in our room on the first floor.
We left at 6am to catch our flight. There was no one at reception, all the lights were off and we had to figure out how to unlock to hotel doors to let ourselves out. I found this a bit disappointing but it is really my only negative criticism of the Mayfair.
Overall I found the Mayfair to be very good value for money and would stay again. Recommended for those looking for a cheap, central base to explore from but perhaps not for those looking for something a bit romantic or special.

Room Tip: We were in a first floor room and were able to connect to the lobby's free internet.
