“pleasant enough, but food awful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

I stayed here with my teenage daughter in July. We booked because it was described as a family/couples hotel - however we found the average age to be over 60! The staff were wonderful but the evening entertainment was aimed at the main clientele, which meant bingo and 60s music. The meal in the restaurant was apalling and I had to complain to the manager (I have heard nothing since). If you want a base to explore St Helier, it's very conveniently located and there are lots of nice restaurants nearby. Pleasant enough - but we won't be going back.

Room Tip: lots of up and down staircases - so many rooms not suitable for some people - take care!

Me, my mum and grandma have been going to this hotel for 15 years now and my grandma has been going for a lot longer. I love this hotel so much and I could not dream of not going there. The staff are so friendly and everything is great, just to mention (because no other reviews seem to say this) they do actually have a kids club and games room, the games room was just done up last year and so was the reception area. They also have free Internet access, 2 bars, 2pools, a sauna, jacuzzi, and gardens, plus it's a 2 minute walk to the beach or a few seconds walk to howard Davis park. I definitely recommend this hotel! I'll be there this weekend! :)

Room Tip: I recommend rooms 201, 118, and 116 just ask at reception before arriving

Spent a long weekend in Jersey with family in June and booked the Metropole as a package deal with the airline. On the positive side, it has a very convenient location in St Helier; everything is walkable and the parking lot always had spaces available when we got back from touring the island. On the downside, the hotel is a throwback to a earlier era of travel with huge package tours of seniors making up most of its clientele. In some ways, this is quaint, but in others it feels claustrophobic and generic.

We booked adjoining rooms with a connecting door which proved problematic as the room had been arranged with a desk in front of the door. Moving the furniture around revealed that while the visible area is well-maintained and clean, the same cannot be said of the unexposed areas. The bathrooms look relatively recently refurbished but the rooms themselves could do with some TLC.

We got an excellent deal staying here and certainly don't regret the choice. The indoor pool was useful and the breakfasts were filling, but it's best to have modest expectations when booking this hotel. If you use it as a convenient base for touring the island and sidestep the cruise ship atmosphere of the public areas, it can be a cost effective way to see Jersey.

First time we've used this hotel on Jersey. The hotel was clean and tidy, the food was very good and the staff were great. Nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed here for a few days last week. The hotel is nice and 5 mins walk from the town of St Hellier. The staff were friendly. The food in the hotel was average. The waiters dont speak a great deal of English and if you questioned the menu they couldnt really help. Although the food we got was quite nice. Its definitley a hotel for the older generation and there were lots of bus trips there.
