We visited Banjo for a leisurely lunch and I must admit, the renovation of the old Victoria Club has been very well done. I didn't like the bar at the back as it was sterile and lacked atmosphere however, the Brasserie where we ate was fine. We were seated in a window banquet and enjoyed it. The restaurant on the left as you enter looks to be the better option. Wine was reasonably priced by the glass and the bottle, service was generally very good and attentive and the atmosphere was upmarket and buzzy for a Monday lunchtime.
Food was something of a disappointment for me but others were more pleased, maybe I chose wrongly. It was typical Potteries Fayre! I had the coconut prawns with chilli dip for a starter and there was more covering than prawn and they were rather sweet, I wouldn't have them again. My wife had the Scallops with a curry sauce and said it was delicious but it should have been for £11.50p for a starter. Our friends had the Pate, generous and the beetroot and goat's cheese starter that was OK.
Our mains were varied. I had the Fritto Misto that was rather greasy with heavy batter, my wife and our friend had the Crab Cake starter as a main and said it was very nice and the other member of our party had the Belly Pork which was decidedly the best option.
All in all, I found the food somewhat average for Jersey but the venue very nice indeed. We are returning in a few weeks time and I have already decided it will be the Scallop Starter and Belly Pork for me. It will be interesting trying it in the evening rather than the lunchtime but unlike some restaurants in Jersey, I am not terribly excited about returning but will give it another try.
