“Lovely clean, friendly hotel in great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

My sister and I stayed for 7 nights at the Samare's Coast Hotel. Our room was comfortable and very clean, although not very contemporary in style. There's a superb indoor pool/jacuzzi /steam room which we often had to ourselves, set in delightful gardens. Free Wi-Fi in Reception/Bar area. We ate in every night for excellent food. There's a bus stop right outside for St. Helier and Gorey Harbour (the island bus service is fantastic) and a lovely clean sandy and rocky beach opposite (the Greve d'Azette RAMSAR site). Amazing sunset one night (see photo). Best of all were the hotel staff: nothing was too much trouble for them and they were all delightful. If this is typical of the family-owned Morvan Hotels chain then all their other hotels are likely to provide an equally good experience.

Room Tip: You need a room at the front for a view of the beach. Our room overlooked the car park and gardens a...

Have just returned today from a lovely holiday at Samare's Coast. My elderly aunt and I shared a serviced apartment and as my review title says it ticked all the boxes. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and homely, and our upstairs apartment afforded us a lovely view of the beautiful well kept gardens and outdoor pool. The main hotel is a very short walk across the gardens and all the amenities there are available to self caterers. The view from the dining room and lounge area at the front of the hotel is just magical, especially the sunsets! The hotel is tastefully decorated and very well maintained and offers all the usual amenities including free wi-fi. We ate 4 nights out of 7 and the food was outstanding ( my husband is a chef by the way) and the service from all the staff was just perfect at all times! Morvan hotels obviously have very high standards which their dedicated staff adhere too, and they all seem very happy in their work which makes for a great atmosphere, but i cannot finish this review without a special mention for Mariusz the general manager, Stanley the bar supervisor and Maria as they made our stay especially enjoyable, will definately be back!

We are grateful for your kind comments in respect of our Samares Coast Hotel. As you point out, we are a part of a local family owned hotel operation, Morvan Hotels. Morvan Hotels has been established in Jersey for over 50 years.

We too feel that the Samares Coast 'ticks' more boxes than some other options, due to our large marine site, award winning gardens, indoor swimming facilities, gym etc..

Each Morvan Hotel also holds a Bronze Investor in People award which helps us to maintain a consistently high standard of customer care.

Whilst we are an important part of a larger hotel operation, the Samares Coast is only operated seasonally (we close each winter). We bring many skilled individual staff members back to the Samares Coast each year from other hotels within our ownership, and many staff also return to us each summer season - so as our high standards can be maintained.

You may wish to note that you may well find fewer reviews for the Samares Coast than for some of our other hotels, as clearly few reviews are posted by guests when we are closed.

Finally, our standard of catering is most important to us; thank you for your excellent feedback. We offer a great choice of dishes - our table d’hote menu is available along with an additional Grill Menu and other options each evening.

We hope that this response is helpful to those researching hotels in Jersey.

The Samare's Coast hotel is in a very nice spot, close to a lovely beach and has a great indoor pool and jacuzzi. The rooms are good, but a bit dated. The breakfasts are alright, but buffet, so the Bacon is not crisp and the eggs not fresh. Would prefer to wait for it to be cooked.

The staff are friendly and very helpful and we liked the service, they do care and listen to you. Can't comment on dinner, but for 4 it would easily run to around £100 per night with drinks, so too expensive for us.

We had rear facing rooms, they are OK, front facing will have great views.

Thank you for your comments and we are so pleased that you feel that our hotel has some lovely touches. We are a more traditional sea front hotel and our style is well displayed on our website which we hope is helpful to prospective guests.

Our staff are always grateful for feedback. Our buffet breakfast is popular though it is not always easy to forecast the speed with which items are consumed. The buffet is closely monitored but we are always happy to cook from fresh should guests have any preferences in this area.

In respect of our value for money, whilst our restaurant dinner is priced at £19.75 per person or £79.00 for four people, if pre booked a lower price applies and our half board dinner price is then £14.50 per person or £58.00 for four people.

Additionally, we do have an additional Grill Menu available where individual courses may be ordered should you not wish for a more comprehensive menu.

We trust that this information is helpful for you and for those researching the Samares Coast Hotel and we thank you for your feedback.

Just returned from an enjoyable four night stay in Samares Coast self-catering apartment on a B&B basis. The apartment was warm (v. important this chilly weekend!), comfortable and spotless. Modern TV/DVD, good kitchen and bathroom facilities. Some furniture a little dated but all in good condition and comfortable/ serviceable. The apartment had excellent natural light and overlooked well-kept gardens and lawns with swimming pool. We didn't use it but the indoor pool looked good and was very popular judging by the number of people there. All the staff we came into contact with were cheerful, friendly, and very helpful. Breakfast was plentiful with good choice and the restaurant staff were attentive and thoughtful. The bus stops are just outside the hotel with easy access to St Helier (15 minutes) and Gorey Harbour (25 minutes) and as we chose not to hire a car this was one reason we selected the Samares Coast.
Greve d'Azette beach is just across the road and is one of Jersey's internationally recognised Ramsar sites - a vast expanse of sand and rock outcrops are revealed as the tide drops, the scenery changes dramatically throughout the day and the view from the restaurant was stunning in the early morning sunshine. And so many sea birds, how I wished I'd packed my binoculars. If you want floral promenades and giftie shops then try St Brelades but if you prefer your beach landscapes packed with natural interest as we do you'll be delighted with this location.

Room Tip: The ground floor garden apartments are on the same level as the car park, so good for people who may...

Thank you for your helpful review.

We are delighted that you have mentioned that our hotel overlooks a RAMSAR site. This is a designation that provides protection for wetlands of International Importance. It is well worth undertaking an internet search of the term RAMSAR as it will provide a good introduction to your stay at the hotel or in Jersey. The south east corner of Jersey, where we are located, is the only part of the Island that enjoys such protection and the wetlands are dramatic with the 40 ft tidal range - one of the greatest in the world.

Your review is appreciated.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2012

We have just returned from a week's holiday in Jersey where we stayed at the Samares Coast hotel in St Clement, South East coast of the island from 17th to 20th July 2011.

We arrived at the hotel on a Sunday afternoon after being dropped off by a mini coach from the airport which we had booked as part of our holiday.

The check-in was simple and reasonably quick at a small reception and we were allocated our room, No.4 which was situated on the lower ground floor in the back garden. There is a lift that services between the floors.

The room is adequately furnished with a double bed, wardrobe, writing table, coffee table and 2 chairs snugly placed into the bay window part of the room. The bathroom is the usual standard with WC and wash hand basis and a shower cubicle and very clean. There is wall mounted TV and a kettle with provision for your coffee and tea. This hotel is situated on the coast road with an impressive sea view and beach.

On the first night, we dined at the hotel restaurant which has a lovely and superb view on to the sea front. The menu is changed daily and displayed at Reception so you could always check what is on offer before you decide to dine in. There was a good selection for starter, the main course and dessert. Food was of good standard. The staff in the restaurant is friendly and helpful and making you feel comfortable and well looked after.

Breakfast is served at the same restaurant where there is a good selection of continental breakfast and cooked breakfast with ample flow of tea or coffee at your table. You could just enjoy the lovely breakfast in your own time and the staff would not hurry you out of the restaurant. Breakfast is served from 8am till 10 am.

We had a few drinks at the bar adjourned to the restaurant and the bar staff was friendly. There are some comfy sofas and seats where you can relax reading a book or newspaper near the Reception area and at one end of the restaurant (waiting area).

There is an outdoor swimming pool in the back garden area if you fancy a swim, or you can choose to use the indoor swimming pool, gym or steam room. Unfortunately, the weather had not been kind to us so we did not try out the outdoor pool.

You can park easily at the rear of the hotel and the garden is well tended with lovely plants and lawn. There are apartments situated in the rear of the hotel overlooking the garden. Oh, there is even a smoking area under an arched shelter for those who smoke in the rear of the hotel.

The hotel is in a good location overlooking the sea and when the tide is out, there is a huge sandy beach where you could take a walk but please do check and be aware of the tide times as the tide can come in pretty quickly and be caught out. There are rock pools on the beach and when the tide is in and you could still see some of the bigger rocks jutting out of the sea and lashing of waves beating against them sending white sprays of sea water high into the air. It is lovely view rain or shine.

The hotel is circa 10 or 15 mins into St Helier, the main town of the island and you can catch a bus right outside the hotel across the main coast road. A 5-minute walk from the hotel, you can shop at a very useful small outlet of Marks and Spencer (food only). If you are short of Euros, there is a Post Office in the Store which doubles up as a foreign exchange bureaux. There is a Cash machine in the Store too.

Overall, we have enjoyed our stay at this hotel whilst in Jersey and we would add that the hotel manager and his staff are helpful and friendly and it certainly makes any holiday stay worthwhile and enjoyable.

Thank you for taking the time to post such a comprehensive review of our Samares Coast Hotel and apartments.

Our hotel complex is set in a prime sea front position, yet we have large sheltered gardens and luxury indoor leisure facilities and this combination does help to make the Samares Coast a great all round choice when visiting Jersey. Certainly, we are grateful for our many repeat guests each year.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and we would be pleased to welcome you back should you choose to visit us again in the future. Thank you once again.

We stayed at the Samare's hotel for two nights (having booked for a week). We didn't sleep either night as the beds were uncomfortable and the noisy flooboards kept us awake both nights. We ended up moving out in an effort to get some sleep.Hotel is very dated.

Very dissapointed.

We do not believe that this review is genuine as no such detailed comments were made by guests staying with us and we can confirm that no hotel guests checked out of the hotel early during September 2011. The review does appear to have taken threads from previous reviews. If this review is genuine then we would be happy for you to contact us to discuss the points that are raised here.

At Morvan Hotels, we now use a dedicated contract quality 'pocket sprung' mattress specification throughout our hotel group. These beds are of a superior quality to those used in many competitor hotels.

Whilst some parts of our hotel has wooden flooring, this is not regarded universally to be negative by clients and is no different to the construction of many homes.

Finally, we are currently tending to our wonderful award winning gardens and updating other parts of the unique Samares Coast Hotel; looking forward to opening our beachfront hotel restaurant and self catering complex for the 2012 season once more. We wish all prospective and past clients well for 2012.
