I stayed at the Miramar with two young children. I booked a double room with extra bed. On arrival we were directed to our room which was a double and 2 singles so the room was very cramped. The decor and furnishings were very old fashioned, the bathroom was old and in need of a re-fit; it had an old olive green suite with chipped tiles and very slippery flooring. Also we were at the back of the hotel looking out onto the car park and a seating area where people gather to smoke. Things got worse at night when you can hear footsteps up above, snoring next door and plumbing noises all around. Plus points were that the room was clean and comfortable, clean towels each day and plenty of hot water.
Breakfast was equally old fashioned. We only had continental which remained the same choice all week of cereal (cornflakes, branflakes, rice crispies, museli, weetabix) fruit juice, half a grapefruit or stewed prunes?! Muller yogurt and toast with butter and those annoying little plastic jam/marmalade portions. Breakfast was all waiter service, the waiters were all great but really we would have preferred to help ourselves to continental and have some different options perhaps...
We only ate once on an evening in the hotel, children had to go in the restaurant earlier than other diners so we were the only people there to begin with. My meal was excellent as was the service, there was a small portion size off the main menu available for children or standard fish fingers, sausage etc.
The hotel has an excellent pool and garden area but due to the weather we didn't make full use of this but I imagine on a warm sunny day it would be the perfect place for a sunbathe and swim.
Overall the Miramar is in a great area, St Brelades, down the hill, is fantastic. The bus stop up the hill and across the road is handy for getting around the island. Its a short 15 min walk to local shops (Waitrose, M&S, Co-op, pharmacy, laundrette, fish and chips plus others). The staff were polite.
I personally would not stay there again with children as we prefer somewhere a bit more fashionable and more child focused, the Miramar guests when we visited were mainly in the over 60's age group.
