“Superlative seafood, great setting and good service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2010

With its large tides and expansive reefs, Jersey is blessed with some of the finest seafood in the world and this is the place to come if you want to experience fresh fish and seafood at its best. The menu changes often but oysters, lobsters and crab are always featured: their lobster thermidor is superlative. Their sea bass is local and line caught - the last time I had it at this restaurant, it was cooked with chorizo and was gorgeous..

The restaurant does a few non-fish dishes too, often featuring venison or gane as well as steak and chicken, which are also cooked well. The dessert menu changes often too: I had a gorgeous dessert with pannacotta and black figs when I last went to the restaurant but couldn't help coveting the dainty-looking sticky toffee pudding too!

Oyster Box has a modern and spacious construction (with clean and hygenic loos!), an elegant but not overly formal atmosphere and a view of one of the most beautiful and popular beaches in Jersey. Its location is ideal positioned for drop-in tourist trade. However, its popularity with locals and tourists-in-the know makes it essential to book a table, especially in the summer months. I have always found the staff friendly and helpful but, on a couple of occasions in the summer, they did seem over-stretched so were not as attentative as they usually are. Being a regular, I knew better than to take their distraction personally but I can see the proprietors need to resolve this glitch, given the negative impact it has had on a couple of reviewers who were visiting the restaurant for the first time.

The Jones family, who own the property, have a history of taking feedback on board (we complained about the quality of a side salad when the restaurant was first opened and what they serve now is difficult to fault) so hopefully the issues that have arisen in the summer from their success will be resolved by next summer.

“Outstanding location and great views!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2010

A terrific place for dinner, right on the ocean. Atmosphere was casual and the food was fabulous. The seafood risotto was really good and the shrimp tempura that I had for an appetizer was delicious. Service was good and the prices were fairly reasonable.

“Food Great, Service not so Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2010

We had dinner on Sunday 19.9.10 - the setting is fabulous with the food very good. However, the service we felt was very hurried - when we arrived we ordered a pre-dinner drink which by the time the waiter came to take our food order had still not arrived, Then our food came before the wine we had ordered, we felt that because it was a Sunday evening that we were being hurried between course's.

Despite this we would dine there again as the food and setting is worth it.

“Seafood extraordinary”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2010

Pre-booked early Sunday lunch. As requested given a window table with a magnificent view of the bay. Ordered starters, roasted pepper with goats cheese and carpaccio of beef. For main course seafood platter for two to share.

Almost more than we cold eat, great quality food and good service.

Our table was booked for 1230 when the restaurant was quite empty. By 1 30 all the tables were full and it looked as if the service was a lot slower for late-comers. Top tip ... eat early
