We were a bit disappointed with our stay at Glin Castle. Aside from one excellent staff (Sam), we were left waiting and waiting. The castle does not look like much from the outside, in fact, we were a bit nervous when we saw it, but the inside of the castle was beautiful with the wonderful antiques and our room was lovely. We had a great view from our quite spacious room that, like the castle, had many antiques. The gardens were beautiful and would highly recommend a brief stroll through the gardens.
But, we did not receive great service. The staff on the first night was pleasant and attentive. The food for dinner was very good. But, the next morning, we waited almost 15 minutes for a waiter to appear for breakfast. She was rather short and almost rude and we had to wait for her on many occassions for more coffee (after asking) and juice - she referred us to a bar where we could help ourselves. This is fine, but for the money she either should have referred us to the bar at the beginning of the meal or got it for us. We had more attentive service elsewhere in Ireland for 1/8 of the price of this hotel. The breakfast food was also a disappointment compared to dinner. We also had to wait 15 minutes or so to check out as there was no one to be found. We had to lug our bags down the steps and into our car as there was no one around. We are capable of doing this but expected more. We left with the impression that we enjoyed our stay but wished we had gone to another castle instead. This was unfortunate because the inside of the castle is so beautiful. Perhaps this was an unusual day because the other reviews are glowing, but we did not receive the same service.
