Excellant experience at Glin castle. We stayed two nights at the end our trip through Ireland and it was the highlight of the trip.

I would recomend contacting the Bob Duff who is the manager about accomdations since you can negotiate a price.

Glin Castle is a magical place and was a perfect location for my father's 85th birthday celebration. It is steeped in history and no two rooms are alike. The rooms we had were all enormous and had fabulous views over the garden and river. I stayed in the Yellow Crown bedroom. My bedroom and bathroom were huge as were the bath towels which prompted us to ask if each towel took up an entire washing machine!! Every detail has been well thought out in the rooms.

If you are interested in historic houses, antiques and art, you will love it here. Take time to wander through the sitting rooms downstairs. I would definitely suggest that you stay for dinner - not because it is necessarily a 'Gordon Ramsey like' experience but because the ambience is so wonderful. Nothing in the surrounding area will beat it even if Gordon himself appears in the locality.

This accommodation has what so many 5 star hotels lack and that is 'real character'. There are only 16 rooms so the service is very personal. Treat yourself! and if you are worried about the price, just remember that it costs a fortune to keep a small castle so be happy that a place like this exists and that the owners are willing to share it with their guests. One exceptional memory of a night's stay beats 10 mediocre memories!

although we were only able to stay at glin castle for one night, we arrived early and were greeted warmly. The grounds are gorgeous, the service is impecable, and the food is delicious. We had romantic walks in the walled garden and the woods, and we had dinner at the castle, which was not only delicious but also so warm and friendly. our waiter was so lovely and accomodating, all the staff was. after dinner we watched some futball in the sitting room, and as the euro qualifiers were on, our eukranian waiter visited us every 20 minutes or so for updates. the room we satyed in was so beautiful. all in all glin castle was a wondefful experience we can't wait to have again.

We had an overnight flight that arrived at 6:00am so we arrived at Glin at 8:30am. We didn't expect to check in (normal check in time is 3:00pm) but wanted to make sure we found the castle first before doing anything else. We were greeted by a lovely woman (forget her name regrettably) who offered to put us in a "sitting room" with a fireplace, TV, blankets and breakfast until our room was ready, which we declined because we wanted to explore a bit. After checking in, we were brought a fantastic tea service and a big bucket of ice (which my husband requested). We got the "Pink Room" which was beautiful, large and overlooked the River Shannon. Dinner at the castle is a MUST. The food was some of the best we've had. Prices are: Starter 10.50 euro pp, Main 30.00 euro pp and Desert 4.50 euro pp. Great prices considering Ballyseede Castle and Kilkea Castle were substantially more. The food was FRESH and DELICIOUS and the room where you eat is adorable. Service in the hotel was phenomenal. Every person we saw was friendly, kind and attentive. We would highly recommend this castle and will stay there again and again and again!!!

My husband and I were on a trip of a life time and we put a lot of research into the places we stayed. We so totally delighted with Glin Castle. Situated on the Shannon River this is a grand old building with spectacular views. Inside are beautiful ornate rooms with all manner of interesting antiques, paintings etc The staff were so lovely and kind, always on hand if you needed them but totally unobtrusive. Our room was deluxe, I was fascinated with all the antiques and portraits. We had a giant bathroom with views over the Shannon. Our bed was an enormous four poster, the linen was top quality and I think I had one of the best nights sleeps on that bed for my entire holiday, it was so comfortable. Walking the grounds was a delight, loved the kitchen garden where food is grown for the property and I loved to see happy healthy chickens in a lovely large run where they can scratch and peck happily like chickens should be able to ! The forest area toward the back of the property is so pretty, some of those old trees are just so magnificent. Walking all about was a thoroughly pleasant way to work up an appetite for dinner.
We had pre dinner drinks in the gorgeous sitting room next to a fire. Dinner was delicious, service was very good too. They had a good wine selection. Met Bob Duff after dinner and had a great talk and laugh with him. Interesting to hear tales of his time in Australia and I would like to thank him so much for giving us the room we had, just adored it, we felt very special.
All in all, this is a place far removed from normal life and hence so very special and really quite magical. Our stay was a highlight of our 5 week holiday and is now a treasured memory.
I thoroughly recommend Glin Castle.

The Glin Castle is not a large castle like Ashford or Dromoland but it is a magnificent large country home that has been in the same family for tens of generations. It is furnished as you would expect with wonderful accumulations over this time. It is beautifully maintained. The "knight" lives in a separate wing of the building which I think adds to the maintenance and care of the property. The grounds are beautiful, a large lawn flowing down to the river Shannon is in front of the building and a lovely garden is in the rear with 100 year old trees. The service is excellent, the rooms are very large and furnished with the family antiques. There are many little touches like bath towels that measure 6 feet by 5 feet. The dining room service is formal and the food was delicious. The castle has a quiet setting and is a wonderful place to spend a couple of restful relaxing days. We would highly recommend Glin castle.

Walls of history. Photos, paintings, letters, china primarily from 16thto 18th century. Big, big rooms and towels! Dinner service truly european. The kitchen gardens and grounds are worthy of a few hours.
