“'Hidden Gem'”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

Attended a wedding of a dear dear friend and stayed the nite. Everything was lovely, the weather, food, and room. Although a bit pricey we indulged in an upgrade to a junior suite and it was perfect with a view of the rolling hills surrounding Macreddin Village. Not a great selection of beers (no Coors on draught) but apart from that we had a lovely time. Great location for a secluded wedding.

Attended a wedding in Brooklodge and was very impressed with the surroundings, service and food. We had booked into a nearby B&B for the night (which was lovely, and within a couple of minutes walk) but I would seriously consider coming back soon to stay at Brooklodge, and try out the local amenities (and the spa!).

Room Tip: We travelled from Newbridge in Kildare and the SatNav brought us through the Ballinabarny gap.. it i...

Many thanks for your kind review and we wholeheartedly agree with your tip not to follow the SatNav. There are good directions on the website how to get here, or Reception are always delighted to guide our guests in! Thanks again, Eoin

We were given this 2 night B + B plus 2 Dinner break plus Spa treatment, plus Golf as a gift by our son and daughter in law. The reason they booked Brooklodge was it was the only place they could book a 2 night break with open dates, all the other hotels they tried (with golf and spa) need specific days. Therefore, we cannot comment on the value.

We absolutely loved the Brooklodge. We were advised by hotel reception on booking to organise the spa treatment and golf prior to arrival as it booked up and this was done. (My spa treatment specified 30 mins treatment and I tried to book a make-up lesson but was told the treatment in the package was for a 30 min facial). On booking I was advised that the hotel itself was booked up but we would be accommodated in the Brooklodge Inn. We were offered an upgrade in the hotel but it was €70 per night and we declined this. On arrival we were told our room was in the Hotel (it overlooked the car park in the front of the hotel.) it was raining and cold so we were very glad we were not in the Lodge as it is a bit of a walk in the rain and cold. also as we were staying in the hotel I could wear my robe down to the spa (as requested) - it would not be possible to do that from the lodge.
The room was fine - if I had a small niggle it was that although the room had a kettle, iron and hairdryer, It was very awkward to get to a plug - especially when using the iron board (not me - my other half!!)

There are lovely turf fires in reception and in the lounge area. Staff in all areas were excellent. I would particularly like to thank the young English/Canadian man who we met the first night in the Italian restaurant and the next night in Actons pub. also Pamela is a fantastic therapist (for my facial).

We truly enjoyed our dinner in the Strawberry Restaurant (the food was excellent - probably one of the best dinners I have ever had!!). We had been offered a 7 15 or 8 45 sitting and we opted for the 8 45 pm but we were sorry we had not taken the 7 15 pm optio (to allow our food to digest before bed!) The breakfast was excellent (as many others have said) with a great choice. The Italian Restaurant were we eat on the first night was fine.

Andrew Jackson - Golf Club - was very helpful. Would definitely recommend hiring a buggy (€20) as it is an extremely hilly course. My husband played on his own and I walked/buggied/photographed/sketched the course and yet it took us 4 hours - we were never held up - it usually would only take 90 minues or 3 hours at most so it is a long course.

The pool (is not for lengths although you could do them) is 1.4 metres - great sauna, and aromatic steam room and relaxing music - very kind staff and opens from 8 am to 8 pm, every day.

Lastly, unlike many other hotels we stayed in when we are settling up the bill on leaving and we have to draw attention to the fact that we are being either overcharged or occasionally undercharged - every item we had charged to the room was correct.

Would return but would need to stay in the hotel.

Lovely Hotel, our room was extremely comfortable, breakfast was excellent, the spa was really lovely the pool and hot tub steam rooms all excellent, had two treatments during our 2 days both unfortunately very average. It was a very relaxing stay we didn't leave the hotel as the weather was just awful. The Strawberry Tree restaurant was also very good we had a great dinner on our first night there.

Love this hotel, however was incredibly disappointed that my 10yr old son wasn't able to use the main pool facilities. Wasn't informed of this on the booking, and had showed him the website and he was really looking forward to it. Instead he was told he could use the second pool, in the wedding side of the hotel... There was nobody in it, the showers were cold, and didn't offer any shower products for guests. Pricey for two nights, considering I can't enjoy it with my son!

Overall a pleasant experience. Expensive for what it is. Positives we found: Thermal suite and massage were fab. Food in the Strawberry tree restaurant was nice. Negatives: Room was cold when we arrived, took time to heat up when we turned on the heater. Bed was very creaky:if you turned over in it at all it would wake you up! Reception staff were very rude to deal with on the phone and face to face!

Room Tip: We booked a four poster junior suite, for better value would book a four poster classic room.

Have been back a number of times and it has never failed to be amazing! Our latest trip merits another review as this time we stayed in a traditional style suite ( an unexpected upgrade on our junior suite booking) could not believe how sumptuous and spacious this room was.......just gorgeous! We dined at la taverna....... divine! And had lunch in the waterside lounge......lovely but had run out of celeriac roulade to go with the yummy smoked salmon;......pity as I had agonized over what to eat and the roulade had swung it for the salmon!!!! (might be better to tell customer before serving?). Had booked spa treatments for both days and these were impeccable as per usual! can't wait to be back! Well done guys keep up the good work......it's what makes guests return time after time!
