“Reservation issues, but good stay otherwise.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

There was some confusion over our stay and because of this half of our party had to stay at the nearby hotel. Despite this, we were all welcomed during our arrival and offered tea, cookies, and some fresh sweet breads that were delicious and very welcome after our drive through the Gap.

The rooms were very clean, basic but comfortable. The house looks to have been recently redone inside in a manner that balances economy with aesthetics well. The breakfast was from a large selection of choices and was made quickly to order.

The grounds were amazing. Pheasants were walking around outside, the rivers are footsteps away, and even an otter came along to say hello! (Who knew there were river otters in Ireland?!)

One note: This B&B ONLY accepts cash, no credit cards of any sort.

If it weren't for the reservation issues (which were also Booking.com 's issue) this would be a five star review.

We stayed in Ashton House for 2 nights over the Easter holidays and what can we say, from the minute we arrived to the minute we left, we experienced the most complete welcome and hospitality we have had in a long time. Tea and biscuits on arrival with loads of advice and great craic thrown in free of charge. We already liked the place from simply coming up the drive way so the room was an added bonus, comfy, well furnished and warm with possibly the best shower we have ever had anywhere! Caitriona and Shane do simple things extremely well, even little things like using our names every time they met us. It's these simple things which make a big difference and we have already decided to return. We couldn't recommend Ashton House strongly enough, its a perfect place to stay, off the beaten track but close to where you might want to go. Our hosts were on top of their game and have sussed how to treat people, make them feel welcome and make them want to return. Well done Caitriona and Shane, the best thing we can say is that it felt like staying with friends rather than in a B&B.

Room Tip: There are only 4 rooms so you never feel like you aren't getting attention. As far as we are co...

We had 1 night with Catherina and her husband at their B&B in Avoca. What a beautiful spot set off the road next to a stream just out of the town.

Room was clean, modern and warm inside a beautiful two storey house. On arrival Catherina gave coffee and snacks while she talked thru the region. Recommended/booked a nice restaurant and generally made the extra effort to make you feel welcome.

Breakfast in the morning was devine.

Highly recommend this place in County Wicklow, we will be back.

We stayed in the January floods but despite the weather enjoyed our short visit. From the outside a period residence, Sean and Catriona have given a very modern look to the interior. Wood/laminate floors, white walls and contemporary furniture.
Warmth of welcome on arrival with tea/coffee and home made cake was much appreciated after driving over the Wicklow Gap in torrential rain and melting snow. Good food continued at breakfast-especially the porridge with almonds, raisins and honey.
Bedrooms were warm and comfortable.
Eating out in the evening the pub 200m down the road is basic and normally last food orders 8.30pm. Otherwise further afield there are plenty of places within easy driving distance.

The atmosphere at the Ashton House was very warm and relaxing. The owners are very nice and helpful, they welcomed us and showed us all the places we could visit, giving us some advices.
The room we have been sleeping was clean, newly refurbished and very well presented. Also the bathroom was very clean and modern.
The breakfast was served in a very pretty room and the food was delicious.
Also the location is wonderful and we had an amazing view on the little stream close to the hotel.

We arrived the beautiful district of Avoca after driving the west coast of Ireland. We found the place on internet and really loved the pictures and reciew we saw there. And reality was even better :) We arrived in the afternoon and was welcomed by Catriona who served coffe and homemade caces and gave us perfect suggestions about what to see in our hollyday in Ireland. Ashton house is fabulos and the rooms and atmosphere are simplly amazing, but the best of all was the hospitalyty of Catriona and Shane. Fantastic people. Catriona guided us to a nice romantic walk in the forrest and by the river nearby. We drove all over Ireland and North Ireland this summer and Ashton house is one of the absolut highlights. If we ever come back to Ireland - we guaranteed wil visit Ashton House for more than only one night. And last but not least - the breakfast - impressing meny - and the best we had in Ireland. We really love Avoca, Ashton House and Catriona and Shane. The best place we stayed in all Ireland :) We cant recommend it enough :) Simply the best !!!
