“amazing fathers day nite away with the kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2011

We stayed in Richmond house Cappoquinn with our 2 kids age 2 and 8 for Fathers day, what a beautiful spot, we played tennis on the croquet green and football to our hearts content unbothered by anyone. The four course dinner was amazing and fantastic value included in our dinner b&b rate, the children dined with us which made the occasion.Breakfast was one of the best I've ever had, lots of fresh berries , organic yogurt and fresh squeezed juices, homemade bread and yummy meaty fry with homemade potatocake. The staff were lovely especially Betty and Jean Barron a gracious hostess. Will defo come back a.s.a.p.

We were a group of about 40 people who had lunch at Richmond House recently. The food and service were excellent. We had soup as a starter and a choice of three dishes, salmon, chicken or lamb, Dessert and tea/coffee - all delicious.

This historic country house has a wonderfully old world feel to it and is in a lovely location in Cappoquin. We look forward to another visit!

We have stayed many times at the Richmond over the years. Paul and Claire treat us like family and are always kind, helpful and gracious. The food and setting is superb (try the duck spring rolls and local apple juice). The rooms are spacious, comfortable and spotless and the staff is very friendly. One time, when we arrived at the Richmond House and our two young children had developed strep throat during the long trip from the States, Claire personally assisted us with finding a doctor on a Saturday morning. Another time, we arrived after a long journey (all healthy this time) and were greeted with a glass of white wine, which we sipped in the garden on a beautiful breezy and sunny day. We recommend the Richmond House without hesitation. It is a destination and reason to visit Ireland in its own right.

I was visting family in the area and they had booked this old style house for dinner. I loved the drawing room that we were brought into the read the menu and wine list. Our order was taken and when we were brought into the restaurant our wine and water was waiting. It was a wonderful night. Food was fab and perfect. We didnt leave till midnight so I do applogise to all staff as I work in hotels and know what its like when waiting on someone to leave. however I must say that we were not rushed out the door. We eat and drank loads and had a great chat. Thank you Clare for looking sfter us. We will be back soon.

I really enjoyed my stay at Richmond house this month, a lovely country house with old world charm. Staff were so friendly and the menu would rival any top fine-dining restaurant. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed with a homely feel, really good quality food, local produce- and run by a lovely couple who very clearly love what they're doing and take pride in the house.
We had a delicious 5 course meal costing €55, the scallops and prawns were so fresh and the Orange rhubarb sorbet was out of this world!
In the morning we were still too stuffed for the full Irish breakfast but had to find room for the home made scones hot out of the oven with some homemade jam. .it was the liitle touches like this that really made Richmond house unique.
Our room looked out onto the gardens (I think there were about 10 rooms). It was clean and comfortable and had a lovely antique style (our wardrobe was an impressive Art nouveau piece).
I would really recommend Richmond House to anyone who likes personal touches, a relaxed homely feel, with a little bit of old-world luxury, it'd be a nice place for a party or family occasion aswell. We visited Dungarven and Lismore Castle the next day.
Definitely a hidden gem that more people should know about!

We stayed at Richmond Lodge in Feb 2007... room at the top of the house... the food was amazing but the thing that we loved the most was being asked to put up the fire guard when we were going to bed...It was like being at home.... After staying there we decided to get married and find a venue similar for our wedding nearer home... We are planning to come back again soon....Thanks

We have just returned from a weekend away at the Richmond House in Cappoquinn. I have never written a review in my life before but I just have to express how wonderful this house is. We arrived on Friday evening to a beautiful room which was so spacious we could have brought the whole family. The sitting room downstairs with its wonderful fire was the most relaxing place you could imagine. The staff Paul and his wife Claire were the best hosts you could ever wish for. In fact all the staff were amazing. They couldn't do enough for us. Whether it was ringing the hairdresser for me or even going as far as offering to sew me into my dress on Saturday night, when I discovered the zip had broken they were simply the best. Friendly yet professional you couldn;t ask for any better.
Now the food. excellent both nights we ate in the restaurant and the food was just the best. I actually cannot think of words to describe food . We were a group and on the second night we arranged to order different dishes so we could all taste everything on the menu. One of my friends had mentioned that she had never actually had scallops. After her starter out came a scallop for her to try. She was delighted. This couple have got it spot on in this house. You simply must go and try it.
