The absolute highlight of our recent B&B holiday in Ireland was our stay at Rowanville Lodge. It was perfect in every way. The setting is wonderful with a fabulous dining room view of Ben Bulben, a closeby landmark mountain that beckons to climbers and hikers. The breakfasts were huge, delicious, and so enjoyable to eat gazing at that amazing view. Our rooms were attractively furnished with comfortable beds (husband is fussy about that) and very nice private bathrooms.
The very friendly and industrious owner Pat is constantly busy keeping things just right, but she'll never hesitate to stop and help you with any travel needs or just to chat. There are numerous repeat visitors here..always a good sign.. The walk to the closeby beach passes down a country lane where farmers and their families working in the fields are quick to stop and chat and get to know you. If you fancy dogs the lodge's resident pair, laid back Bob and busy, busy Ruby will enthusiastically lead you to the beach to cavort, fetch sticks, wade, and just admire the view of sea, distant castles and closeby curious cattle.
We sadly missed the acclaimed fishing, but had a glorious horseback ride galloping along an endless sandy beach, something one can't do at American stables. Nearby restaurants had excellent menus, particularly the owner's and our favorite Yeats tavern. Superb fresh fish dishes. We can't wait to return to Rowanville next year and become regular visitors.
