“Struggling to maintain quality”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

I've stayed here four times now over four years and each time the hotel seems to slide a little downwards in quality. Things are all getting a bit worn, the staff still make me feel welcome but management need to reinvest a little more to maintain comfort levels. At 50 euros a night it still represents good value. Food in the bar us good but breakfast is a bit hit and miss.

dear valued customer,
having read your review i am sorry to hear that you feel the hotel has fallen. i am unsure what exactly you would like ti improve comfort wise? during these tough times we are doing our best to improve. since the hotel came under new ownership this year we have recently painted the the interior and exterior of the hotel and also put in new carpet. we do know that there is more to be done but we are doing our best. on the good note we have recently been awarded for our food and service which is uplifting.
however i am interested to hear where else you suggest for improve and if you would like to email me i will be glad to read it and see what we can do
regards

Excellant bar food and reasonably price, good secure car park at rear of hotel. Was woken at 6.30am with truck reversing down the side entrance but they kept very quit making the delivery. Room was a nice size, the bathroom was a bit small and lack in decor. The shower worked perfectely. Hotel receptionists and bar staff were all very friendly. Would stay again.

Stayed 1 night, woke at 3am by fire alarm which was false alarm people were smoking near main entrance, got back to sleep only to be woke at 4.30am by a man trying to get into my room, unsuccessful, he came back a second time this time he got my room door open, finally after a few words he went away when I tried to use phone in room to ring reception phone was not working had to use my mobile, the time was after 5am did not get to sleep again, when I complained next morning staff did not seem to bothered about what had happened, I would defo not recommend this hotel, staff need a bit more training in how to deal with this kind of situation, very disappointed.....

dear customer,
I was made aware of the problems on this night the next morning by reception staff. I am very sorry that your night stay was not up to our usual standard. unfortunately we had a large group of guests who would not abide by the smoking rules or listen to our night porter. i have also reprogrammed all doors in the hotel in order to insure keys only fit one door. as regards to staff training, sometimes even with this it is hard and even impossible to make the public to comply with general regulations.
i do hope you will return to the hotel and see that this is not a regular occurrence.
many thanks for your review

Visited this hotel yesterday, very impressed with the entrance/reception area. Bar area nice, staff very good, efficient and knew their stuff, i.e. handed out menus and were knowlegable about what on offer to eat and what the girl recommended was a good choice. We were a group of 10 persons and I can say that all our group were very happy with the choice of meal that they chose. The service was very good and we were not waiting long for the food to be brought out. The girl came over twice while we were there to ask if all was ok and if there was anything else we may need. Definitely would come back here for a meal and the price was good value for money and plenty of choice too.

Staying at the Ashbourne House Hotel, was like staying with friends. My wife and myself decided to have a short break, but needed to stay within one hour of Dublin or Cork. Having looked around, we decided to book in for 2 nights at the Ashbourne Hotel, Ashbourne, Co Meath. Great thing about Ashbourne is the fact it is near Dublin and many other attractions. On our way to the Hotel from Cork, we visted IKEA for some shopping and went on to the hotel. we booked in to what was a surprising room ( double bath, canopyed bed !). Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful when planning our few days away. We had a lovely dinner in the bar area and even the wine was not too dear. folowing breakfast the following morning we visited Belfast where we done a city tour. Again that night we had a fine dinner in the bar ( early bird incuded a main course and a glass of wine for €12). the next day we booked out and went to visit Newgrange ( 30mins travel) and the Hill of Tara. Good weather for the 3 days made this one of the best short breaks we have had.

Ate in the bar here 2 weeks ago and will safely say will not be in a hurry to come back. when we first arrived we were directed to the table by the barman who gave us the menus. I chose the chicken burger and chips. The girl who served us was not very nice and when I asked her if salad came with mine she just grunted no. it was as if we were a burden on her. not very pleasant at all. our food was ok a bit disappointing to have just a slice of orange ? on the plate as a garnish. definitely not worth the 13 or 14 euro it was priced. no-one came near us to ask if we were ok or checked if the meal was ok when we were paying. customer service not great

Dear reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I was sorry to hear that you found one of the waitresses to be unfriendly I will be looking into this matter further. As for the food we generally don't get complaints regarding this we have received two awards for our food plus we have successfully secured a place in the final 6 hotels in Leinster for our carvery. I will note this and pass this on.
I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Ashbourne House Hotel.
