“Beautiful, clean, gorgeous location, friendly owners, great value - just fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

I just returned from a 3 nights stay at this beautiful hostel in Cloghane and I had the best time! The owner is very friendly and helpful and so is everyone else working there, especially Kalle from Berlin :) I have traveled all around the world and have slept in motels, hostels, business class hotels, just about everything you can imagine and this was definitely one of my most positive experiences. The value is just fantastic, the hostel itself is beautifully furnished, the WiFi works perfectly, the rooms are warm and the VIEW.... the VIEW is breathtaking! The village is adorable and there is so much to do. There is a nice pub right next door and many hiking trails from what I have heard, unfortunately I didn't get the chance to try them this time - not enough time :( However, we drove around a lot and the whole area including Brandon, Dingle and all the other small villages are charming and it is definitely the most beautiful area in all of Ireland! I can't recommend the hostel and the area enough! Just fantastic. Thanks again, I will definitely be back!

We booked out the whole hostel for our church's weekend away, and we couldn't be happier! Micheal is an amazing host, going out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. The hostel itself is well equipped for singles, couples, and families- there was a perfect room for everyone. The location is perfect: nestled in a tiny village, close to gorgeous beaches and mountains. We can't wait to go back!

Another great stay in the Mount Brandon Hostel in Cloghane. Hostel is warm, clean, with good facilities and very helpful staff who make you feel right at home. We booked a double room for a great price of 20e pp and that includes continental breakfast in the morning. The hostel is perfect for walking / chilling out. The Dingle way passes the front door and you can head up Mount Brandon without even jumping in the car. The pub that is right next door serves great food, great choice and reasonable prices. It also has a pool table and darts board. After climbing Brandon, we were invited in for a shower and a cup of tea even though we weren't staying that night. Both were thoroughly enjoyed - A great visit.

Great time in Cloghane & Mount Brandon Hostel. Lovely hostel, clean & warm and good facilities. Very comfortable. Mary , Michael & Kalla are very heplful, and put us at ease. Coming all the way from Dublin to welcome us, that good service. It lovely place and ten paces only to the pub!!

I have to say the food was great at O'Donnells (Gina). Pub next door. The choice & quality was more then good. How she did it on her own is amazing. All of us were more then impressed and her daughter was gem. They both have the knack for it.

I think everyone would like to return. Mary & Michael (& Gina) are great hosts and they have got it right. Ideal for hillwalking groups.

Absolute gem, ideal base for walking, cycling or driving. having locals in situ sets it apart from most other hostels, lots of helpful advice, phone calls, taxi arranging etc above and beyond the call of duty. Great breakfast also. Don't tell everyone : ))

My party of nine hillwalkers spent 3 nights at Mount Brandon Hostel and we really enjoyed our stay. Micheal and Mary were extremely friendly and helpful hosts. The view across the bay from the dining room is stunning, and Mount Brandon itself can be climbed directly from the hostel. Definitely one of the best hostels we have stayed at, it's just a shame that it is so far to Cloghane from Aberdeen !

Best experience to date in a hostel. Mary was an exceptional hostess, and we were fortunate to be staying at the hostel while she was there. She provides more for her guests in one afternoon than I have witnessed any hostel owner provide in even a year's time. She redefined hospitality. Don't hesitate to start a chat with her either, as she is quite the conversationalist. She even gave me advice on everything from health to interviewing. Absolute gem she was.

The kitchen was more than adequate for preparing a monstrous meal for three hungry young men after a day of climbing. Three large stoves, two of which are gas, and plenty of counter space for prep work. Grab some groceries down the road at the local shop & bakery. The shop is also home to Bácús, a Bridgestone Award-winning bakery and only a 5 minute walk from the hostel. The dining room is large, and Mary spoke of expansions which are currently being planned.

At the end of an 8 day walk from Kinvara, we hung out in the sitting room just off the dining area. I'm sure they would have allowed us to use the fireplace had we asked. We got so comfortable, our plan to take a stroll to O'Donnel's vanished, and we all just about fell asleep on those couches.

I'll be back to Mt. Brandon Hostel. Whether I'll be fit enough to scale Brandon again, I can't say. I'd make the trip from Texas just to sit and chat with Mary again.
