“First castle visit and all locked up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

We had read that the castle is open from 10am. We got there about 10:30am and it was locked up and not a sole was around.
We decided to look at gets we could. It is a magical place even though we could only see through the locked gates. We did walk around the castle amongst the mud which was fun.
We just be the tour buses as they arrived after us. So all our photos are just us and the castle. 10 minutes later about 3 tour buses turned up and still the castle gates remained locked.
I'm glad we got to see the castle before the crowds.

“Well Preserved Irish Castle.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

While you can pay to enter the castle, it is not really big enough to justify the fee (Eur 6/Person). The bay views around the castle are perfect, with the little town of Kinvarra in the background.

Walking around the grounds gives you plenty of great vantage points. You can also poke your head inside the castle without paying the fee to snap some photos and get a feel for the castle structure.

“Beautiful and very well preserved.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

This one of the more well-preserved castles in Ireland, and the local gov't should be commended for its fine work. The castle is easy to find, and even if closed for the season, one can come through the gates and enjoy the ambiance of the environment.

“close to nature”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2013

this was one of our first stops on the way to the cliffs of moher and i was amazed! such a beautiful place, loved the silent lake and the castle! our tour guide was a local and very well at telling the history of the place. A lot of people said that dont spend time at the castle, there isnt much to do but for me it was an ideal spot to just relax, felt so much closer to nature! I could anyday just sit there for hours and read a book or taking photos of the place. was beautiful definitly recommend it to others!
