“Surely Ireland at it's best?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We had a fabulous week here, 5 adults easily fitted in and it was nice to have comfy seating in the lounge - so many properties we looked at in Ireland didn't seem to have this. The views were amazing from the lounge and both double bedrooms. A very dog friendly house with easy to clean stone floors and a utility room with washing machine and drier and a small park just a couple of minutes walk away for that end of the evening run. Dogs Bay Beach and Gurteen Beach are great places to run dogs. The village had a couple of shops that seemed to stock everything and some great places to eat. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. A very peaceful place but with so much going on, we can't wait to come back.

“Location and Elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

My wife and I, accompanied by our two young children stayed here for 3 nights in early February. Despite being literally the only tourists in Roundstone we loved the entire experience! First and foremost, Simon's property was the highlight for us and by far our favorite self-catering property during our 2.5 week Ireland trip. The simple elegance of the decor, awesome kitchen, and amenities were all 5 star. This was the first property we have stayed with the kind of view that this property had. Completely unique, and a true taste of an authentic Irish fishing village.

The highlight for us was the continually changing scenery from the huge living room window, along with the fishing boats rising up and down with the tides. The open fireplace and ability to walk 30 seconds up the hill to replenish peat or firewood from one of the local stores was very cool. Although we planned to eat out, we ended up being inspired by the kitchen and view from it so made the easy drive up to the Supervalu in Clifden, which has everything you need. We did get take out from O'Dowd's on the last night and was impressed with the food.

Couple of recommendations - Connemara Smoke House (15 min drive from Roundstone) has amazing fresh or smoked fish at a great price. Lowry's in Clifden has a music session every Tuesday night. The secondary "interior" route to/from Clifden is spectacular and perfectly safe. Don't be put off by the primitive look of the road!

A great classy and clean property, a spectacular location, and definitely a place we will revisit in summer.

“Amazimg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2014 for a stay in November 2013

My parents and I have been to Ireland four times and this is one of my favorite places. It is litteraly just off the harbour and the view from the front room and all the bedrooms is brilliant. You wake up every morning to the sea and a beautiful town. It's steps from restraunts, and a few little stores that sell everything you'd ever need.
We were there in November and one day some my dad was out and said "hi" to some fishermen taking the crab traps in, he came home with a bag of fresh crab claws as big as his hands.
The two front bedrooms have the best view and the bathroom on the second floor was huge. I love the way the house is designed as well.

“The perfect escape...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

I stayed here for a weekend in February 2014 with a few friends. We couldn't have wished for anything better! The house is ideally located - overlooking the harbour with a stunning view of mountains in the distance, and is very nicely furnished.
Roundstone is a charming fishing village ideally situated for hiking/fishing/walking, or for a few Guinness's in the local!

I'm recommending this house to other friends and family - and I'm already planning my next escape to Quay House...

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

We have stayed in Roundstone many times but this is the best house we have rented in the village yet. The location on the quayside is ideal with fantastic views over the harbour and mountains beyond from all the main rooms. The house is very comfortable and well equipped and was ideal for a winter break during which we had some extreme weather. All the amenities of the village are on the doorstep including shops and pubs. All in all this property is highly recommended.

“Great Vacation Rental!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Our party of 4 (3 adults 1 toddler) stayed for a week in Simon's Quay house and couldn't be happier with our experience!
The views from the home are amazing! We would watch the fishermen head out each morning as we sat in front of the picture window, coffee in hand.
Hot water for showers takes a bit of forethought (buttons must be pushed in the utility room prior to showering), same goes for the radiant heat. Not really an issue, just mentioning it as these energy efficiencies be unfamiliar to most Americans.

It might also be helpful to know the town of Roundstone is about an hour and 15 minutes from Galway, roughly 3.5 hours from Dublin (Pay no attention to googles driving time estimates in Ireland). The drive from Dublin to Galway is easy, the drive from Galway to Roundstone is a bit harrowing especially at night.
Simon was an excellent host, we loved the home and the area, if you're looking to stay in Connemara you can't go wrong by staying here!

“Splendid vacation townhouse in Roundstone!”

What a treat - both the house and the town! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week stay and happily recommend staying in the Quay Cottage to others. The place was well equipped and clean with very comfortable beds, beautiful views (water, boats, the 12 bens), a working fireplace, wireless internet , parking in front of house - and all in a delightful town with great folks and pubs and restaurants in walking distance. We felt we really experienced the Connemara region. The owner, Simon, met us upon arrival and he (and his family) is just delightful and very responsive if anything comes up or you have any questions. We did not have the greatest weather but it really did not matter! Would definitely go back.
