“uninspiring”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

O'Dowd's is a fairly small pub which also serves food in this small west of Ireland village. We had lunch there recently ordering the chowder and monkfish gougons and chips. Chowder was fine, quite salty but edible, I have to say I have had lots of better chowders all over Ireland so I wasn't particularly wowed by this one. Monkfish gougons could honestly have been any fish, they looked and tasted as if they had recently come out of a freezer and were covered in 'fish finger' type breadcrumbs. Fries were the usual tasteless frozen variety and a small side salad was also served. On the plus side, service was efficient but overall I felt the food was uninspiring and not particularly good value.

“Excellent fish”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2014

We all had fish, and all were very fresh, well prepared and accompanied by vegetables and potatoes. Service was accommodating to special requests. We had the early bird menu and were very satisfied with the entire meal.

“Delicious Fishing Village Restaurant with Divine Chowder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

The seafood chowder is so lovely! It wasn't too heavy and had a great assortment of seafood without being "fishy". I'm not a big fan of calamari and they were flexible in leaving it out - love the service. We got the fish and chips with hake - delicious. The setting is great and has a wonderful vibe.

“O Dowd's O'Disappointing ”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

What a shocker. O Dowd's was recommended however it really was a pathetic attempt at seafood. We opted for the early bird menu and all 4 of us look bewildered and wondered if we were on the wrong restaurant.

The decor is abysmal, more In line with a sit down take away.

O'Dowd's chowder is famous apparently, I can tell you it's not for being chowder that it's famous.

Catch of the day ( bedsides ourselves) was bland, cooked badly, the salad was thrown together, no thought, chips fair, tartare sauce was not house made.

Service was mediocre and complaining when paying fell on deaf ears.

Save your money, this is not a seafood establishment, it's a shoddy sit down take away at best.
