It has been run by the O'Dowd family for four generations since 1906. A bar has been operating on the premises since 1840 and it is widely regarded as the oldest pub in Connemara. It is now famous for its excellent fresh local seafood and it has one of the best pints of guinness in the locality. Fresh seafood include our own Home-made Seafood Chowder, Roundstone Crab Claws, Cashel Bay Mussels, Mannin Bay Oysters, Local Lobster and our very popular Fisherman's Platter, all accompanied with home-made brown scones. Chicken, Meat, Vegetarian, Soups S Sandwiches are also well catered for. Reservations in our restaurant are advisable during July & August & Bank Holiday weekends.O'Dowds has a special traditional pub atmosphere & friendly service which has remained unchanged for decades if not centuries. The bar is small & intimate with its traditional turf fire & beautiful views over Roundstone Harbour & The Twelve Bens.

“The seafood chowder is a must”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Great traditional Irish and seafood at great prices in a traditional Irish pub. Nothing better on a damp and cold February evening, than sitting by an open fire eating great food.

O'Dowds is a must stop restaurant in Roundstone. Try the chowder.... perfect winter warmer. And the fish and chips...YUM!

“Tiny but charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

It was rather quiet as we've been there in the middle of the week in November. It it a perfect place to have a pint of Guinness and enjoy Ireland. The view across the bay on the Twelve Bens is unbelievable!

“DELICIOUS!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

I had an incredible dinner here! Hot whiskey (for my sore throat) a goat cheese tart and a lamb stew (which could had fed a family it was so large and hearty!) It was a really delicious meal. Great service and I am looking forward to returning to Roundstone to eat more here :)

“Staff could do with actually looking as if they want customers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Came here twice and on both occasions staff unfriendly, rude and ignorant particularly the older woman with the blonde hair. It's not much to expect to be handed a menu (had to get our own off the bar as waitress stood looking at us, there were only two others in the bar, hardly run off her feet). Order was taken without even a greeting, just a very bizarre attitude. I am not a tourist looking to be waited on hand and foot, just am ordinary irish customer looking for basic manners !!
