Great location but sadly the local campsite is unfriendly! We spent a weekend in Connermara, after a very successful time at the Great Fjord Swim at Killary Harbour, a very well run event where we stayed locally at the very friendly if basic Connemara Hostel opposite the Killary Adventure Centre, both with very friendly staff, and onto Clifden to stay with friends.
On the way home, passing by this campsite last weekend we pulled into the entrance as research for a return trip. We did not stop or even turn off the engine, and were just turning the car when the proprietor came out. I smiled and said "I'm not stopping, I was just passing and wanted to check the site for a return visit" and she was very rude. She wouldn't answer my question about when the opening season was, just kept repeated "WE'RE CLOSED" as if it was a matter of principle not to engage with us. I tried to explain that I was just turning round and not trying to go inside but she kept interupting me. I left feeling a little shaken by the experience. When I come back to Connemara I will not stay here, not even for the view. There is no need for rudeness, and thankfully not everyone is like this. The beach itself is beautiful though and I recommend the area. Letterfrack was great for evening pub grub. There is another campsite in this area further towards Mayo, not far away and I may try them instead.
