Our two-week visit to Ireland during the fall of 2011 was almost over and we were booked to fly out the following morning. During our travels throughout Ireland we had stayed at both castles and B&B’s and really liked the B&B experience. We attempted to find a B&B close to where we needed to drop off our rental car in the morning but because it was a little later in the day all the B&B’s close to the airport were already booked so we resigned ourselves to a motel stay. We found a motel fairly close to the rental agency that had vacancies and asked the girl at the front desk if we could look at a room before booking it. Upon entering the room my wife and I immediately noted a stale musty odor that smelled like someone attempted to mask cigarette smoke lingering in the room. We both knew we couldn’t spend our last night in Ireland like this and decided to continue our search for a B&B.
We ended up in Swords and found a likely B&B (Evergreen), but soon learned that they too were booked for the night. Now, I’m not reviewing the Evergreen B&B here, but I must add that Mary Canavan, the owner of Evergreen B&B, went out of her way to find us a place to spend the night. She referred to her B&B directory and called a number of B&B’s she was familiar with that she would recommend and subsequently called Margaret Farrell who ran the Hollywood B&B in Ballyboghil.
Mary explained that Hollywood B&B was a little further than we originally wanted to travel but assured us that Margaret ran a very nice B&B. Based on Mary’s recommendation we booked a room at Hollywood B&B, sight unseen.
We were not disappointed. Hollywood B&B is about 15 minutes from the Dublin Airport and is situated in a rural setting. Margaret and her husband have a beautiful home and they couldn’t have been nicer. Our room was spacious and clean and Margaret prepared a wonderful Irish Breakfast the following morning. I still chuckle as I recall sitting at the breakfast table with my wife and looking out the window as Margaret poured warm water on the windows of our car to melt the morning frost. She was such a delight and a wonderful representative of the Irish People.
Hollywood B&B ended up being the perfect place to stay our last evening in Ireland. Whether you’re first arriving in Ireland or preparing to depart, you won’t be disappointed you chose Hollywood B&B. That 15 minute scenic drive in the morning was a perfect way to end our stay in Ireland.
