If you look at any other of my reviews, you will see that I usually feel we've had good value and I dont tend to overexpect - I am realistic about the price paid versus the service provided. I dont think I've written ANY other bad review, and we have stayed in many different accommodations across the world in recent years.
We were travelling around the North of Ireland, staying in a different place each night. (I highly recommend this by the way - spectacular views, food and people, in general). We stayed in B & Bs, guesthouses and hotels over 7 nights, and only Jacksons was a big disappointment. We felt totally ripped off with such poor value. We had booked Kees in Stranolar after looking in Trip Advisor but when we arrived, after a long journey, found our booking wasnt on their system so they phoned Jacksons for us and we were just glad to get somewhere - it was 8pm. The rate for the room was 160 (including breakfast). The bed had a cheap springy mattress which had us awake all night. The old floorboards creaked and wobbled. In fact, when anyone walked in the hallway outside, the boards in our room wobbled and creaked too! The room was large alright but the ensuite was like something out of the 70s. Dirty looking and toilet bowl wasnt fixed to the floor properly. So between the floorboards, mattress and toilet bowl, we dubbed it a 'wibbly, wobbly wonder' experience! We were out with friends and returned to the room at 11.30pm, to find the heating on full blast, on a day which had been 22deg celsius and the middle of August! It was like a SAUNA, but when we phoned reception, we were just told it stays on automatically until midnight. We had to insist on a fan as we couldnt have even attempted sleep in such heat, and I cant believe we were the only ones complaining. When the fan was brought up by the same gruff Donegal guy on reception when I phoned, my husband asked why the heating would be on in the middle of summer, he was told again, gruffly, that it was automatic; no apology. The cooked breakfast was good (although the buffet was extremely poor and badly laid out - you couldnt get at it, wedged as it was between two guest tables), and they give you fish if you ask for it (although not on a menu). The foreign staff in the restaurant were all very nice and helpful. We were returning to Ballybofey at the end of the week and were VERY careful not to stay there again. See our separate review on the lovely Villa Rose.
