We stayed here in July 11, we had asked for a room in the new part of the hotel & thankfully were accomodated. Our room was lovely. I am a wheelchair user & our room was definately wheelchair friendly.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Jackson's Hotel.

This has been our 3rd time there this Year. We booked the executive room which is well worth the money (Room 414) on a 2 night B&B plus one evening meal, Sunday night thru to Tuesday a great time to stay after the weekend.
What we most like about Jackson's is the Staff (very friendly and helpful), the food is great and I must say that the Fillet Steak I had on Sunday night was one of the best I had in a long time, kudos Chef!.
The hotel in some places needs updating but I think this is an ongoing project.
Overall if you love to bring your dog, this place is a must. Oscar(miniature Schnauzer) loves the Garden which is enclosed so you can have a pint and let him run around and not have to worry. Its a great dog friendly hotel.

Can't wait to book again :)

On behalf of Jackson's Hotel, thank you kindly for your response and for all your positive comments! It's great to hear that our staff was so friendly and helpful and that you enjoyed the food. As you said, the decoration is ongoing as we want to keep a traditional style in the Traditional Part and a modern style in the New Part. We are proud of being a 4* pet friendly hotel and more than happy to welcome back Oscar anytime. Looking forward to see you again soon!

Kind regards,

We have booked Jacksons hotel for our wedding reception in 2012 and was very concerned after reading the reviews posted by some people on trip advisor so we decided to visit the hotel again yesterday to check things out further. We attended the hotel for a food tasting session proir to deciding on our wedding meal and I can honestly say the food we had recieved was first class and the service we recieved (from Sue in the restaurant) was excellent. All the staff we came into contact with in Jacksons were more than helpful yesterday and any thing we asked for was not a problem.

There was a wedding being held in Jackson's yesterday so we got the oppertunity to see the wedding room fully dressed for the reception and it looked fantastic.

As the review below highlights a problem with room rates we too have been offered a room rate for our guests but we are well aware this is only recieved if booked through the hotel and not from an independent website who set their own rates for the hotel rooms.

We are now really looking forward to our wedding in Jacksons next year and our initial worries after reading the reviews posted here have now well and truely been abolished!

My partner and i stayed overnight at Jackson's Hotel for convenience as we were in attendance at a wedding. I had previously booked our stay online to secure a room. Prior to our stay the couple who were getting married and had chosen the hotel for the venure for their wedding reception advised we make contact with the hotel to ensure we recieved discount as wedding guests. I subsequently contacted the hotel and spoke with reception staff. When i advised the receptionist of my conversation with the wedding couple, i was advised we were not entitled to discount as we had not booked the room over the phone. I informed the receptionist that the wedding couple were clearly not aware of this clause as they were aware i had booked the room online and were of the opinion all wedding guests were entitled to discount. The receptionist was unhelpful to say the least and was adament we were not entitled to discount.
When we did arrive at the hotel to book in we waited patiently for a good number of minutes to get booked (paying fuly price!). When we finally got to our room i felt i had been transported back in a time machine to the 1920's owing to the decor. Our room was NOTHING like the rooms adverstied which i felt was dishonest and misleading by the hotel management (false advertising). The key card we were given to gain access to our room did not work the majority of the time and i found myself spending the majority of my time at the hotel walking from the room to the reception to try and gain access to the room!
NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!1

On behalf of Jackson's Hotel, thank you kindly for your response.

You do have a choice of Room - the Modern Rooms are decorated in style and the Traditional Rooms are decorated in traditional style. The Key Card can be deactivated if it comes into contact with a mobile phone. Once the Key Card was activated/changed for a new one, it should have been working properly, I apologise for this minor error.

About your comment of the Wedding Rate, you must have been awared that this is only received if booked through the hotel, and not from any website that set their own rates for the hotel rooms. To cancel bookings you must go online and do so, we can't give you the discounted wedding rate when your booking was made online, as its persumed to be a standard booking. We are sorry about this and will be taking necessary action to secure that the same mistake is not happening to other guests in the future.

Kind regards,

Jackson's Hotel

We recently stayed at Jacksons for two nights, to attend a family wedding. Firstly I cannot fathom the bad reviews I have read below!!
On arrival to the hotel, we were welcomed by the reception staff, which quickly and courteously checked us in to our room. The room was bright, spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Fresh towels, spare pillows etc were plentiful.
The Wedding reception itself was held in the most spectacular room, food was in abundance and staff remained attentive to each and every table , encouraging guests to have extra if they so required. The bar staff were quick and polite, as was each and every member of staff that we had the pleasure in meeting during our stay.
Breakfast was served to your room or in the dining area; we choose to have it to our room. It arrived on time each morning, piping hot with copious amounts of food, we really couldn’t criticise any of it.
In short, I would have no hesitation in recommending Jacksons Hotel to anyone.

Went here for a couple of weekdays on a special offer we got, didn't exactly get the rooms for nothing mind. We liked the reception/foyer area, staff were fine. Problems were that we weren't asked for a smoking or non smoking room. When we got to our room there was the WORST smell of smoke we have ever got from a room. We immediatly asked to be switched, This my partner was told was to an upgrade room in the "new" part of the hotel that we would normally have to pay for. The "upgrade" was the furthest possible from reception meaning a big big trek to get in and out of the hotel(becasue of the layout with a new section added). Getting the super smokey room and then being put at the back of the hotel meant us feel very under-valued as customers. There didn't seem to be too many people staying at the time so didn't see why we had to be shunted so far from reception. Unfortunatly the "new" part of the hotel seem to be having some paint work done meaning there was a strong smell of paint around the area of our room. Was a lot better than the smokey room though. For a new part of the hotel the grouting on the shower in our room needed a good cleaning, was orange at the bottom. The radiators in our room were off and no instuctions were left as you would normally have explaining all the little bits like ironing service, internet access, how2 use your heating. Luckily it was standard radiators that have been around for years, for a "new" part of the hotel the radiators wern't a very modern type, kept us warm though. Breakfast was fine, not a great deal of selection in terms of fruits etc. The second morning they had ran out of crispies or cornflakes(can't remember which, just remember that I couldn't do my usual mixing the two together which I like to do). So so overall really. Service would be a 4 except for the thing about the "upgrade".

On behalf of Jackson's Hotel, thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I'm so sorry to hear you have these remarks about your stay with us.

I apologise you got a smell of smoke in your room, 85% of our rooms are non-smoking, so if you have requested a non-smoking room you would have been allocated on the room of your choice. The Grout used is brown which is self explanatory.

About your comment of he Breakfast, there is always a large selection of cereals on offer and refills are ongoing. A quick query to any of the breakfast staff and they could have brought you anything that you may needed. The same with the variety of juices, fruit, bakery, hot food etc. that can be provided if requested.

All the information as ironing, heating, etc. is contained in the Guest Information Folder and guests are invited to dial 0 for information or service is in any doubt. The heating is controlled by a computerised system. Sorry you found the modern accommodation quiet it is very exclusive and relaxing.

Kind regards,

Jackson's Hotel

My partner and I travelled to ballybofey for a family wedding on 2nd September 2011. from the moment we arrived to the day we left I have notthing but plesant and happy memories. The wedding reception was amazing, the service and the food was fantastic and the staff, although very busy were friendly, courteous and always polite and accomodating.

The room we stayed in on the first night was in the old part of the hotel, although it wasn't what we expected for what we paid,(it could do with a little modernising) there was no problem in getting moved into the newer part wth the modern rooms and also closer to the rest of my family and wedding party. (If you are booking online, indicate that you'd like to stay in the new part of the hotel). The receptionists we always very polite and were a pleasure to deal with. The waiting staff were always well dressed, polite and friendly and the bar staff were also very polite and helpful.

While at Jackson's we had some trouble with our car and the receptionist, I wish I remembered her name, got us in touch with a mechanic who repaired our car within a few hours and he didn't charge a fortune either.

Overall my stay was memorable, the food was lovely although I thought some items were a little on the pricey side, but at the end of the day you do pay for quality. In saying that, the breakfasts, included in the room price were lovely, with a choice of cooked breakfasts, cereals, toaasts, breads or combination of all if you wished. The serving staff in the mornings were also very friendly and helpful.

If anyone is travelling to Donegal for a few days or longer I would definitely recommend jackson's as a base, it is very central and is close to several attractions. Average room prive is arounfd55euro per person per night and that includes breakfast, average price of a pint of is about 4euro and the meal would be around 30euro per person including a starter and drink.

As we had such a great time and because the staff made our stay a plesant and memorable one we will definitely return. Well done and thanks to all at Jacksons for providing such a great service.

Room Tip: When booking, state that you'd like a room in the new part of the hotel.
