“What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2012

Upon arrival at Lochinver Farmhouse, one is struck by the incredible view of the pastures, hills and Bandon River Estuary. The rooms, although not luxurious, were very clean, spacious, and had every ammenity needed. Our room was "the Farmhouse" and was such fun for us retired cattlemen........we could view the dairy cattle right out window! Helen was a gracious hostess and gave us good suggestions for restaurants and other sightseeing attractions. She had a comfortable living room with a great view and we took advantage of that in the evenings to chat with her and with other guests. Made to order breakfasts were delicious. This is a very relaxing place to stay in an absolutely gorgeous setting.

I would like to start this review by saying that my standards for a bed and breakfast in Ireland weren't set that high (although Cahergal Farmhouse raised them pretty high). Our trip was designed to drive across the country and stay at different places along the way. All that we were asking for was a clean room and a comfortable bed. After about 2 hours of driving from our previous destination, we arrived at the farmhouse. It was out of they way but pretty easy to find. We rang the door bell and found a note that no one was there and wouldn't be for the next half hour. Our group started to walk around and take pictures since there wasn't anything else for us to do. Helen finally came to the door and explained that she put the sign out because she had a hair appt to make and her husband wasn't home to wait for people to arrive. Once she saw our car, she went to call her hair dresser and reschedule which is why she didn't answer the door. After we got in, she showed us our rooms. Our party had 6 people and took up 3 out of 4 of her bedrooms. She gave us 2 twin sized beds and the other 2 couples had normal beds. When I tried to pull her aside and tell her that twin sized beds will not due, she had her 5 year old grandson with her. She never once asked him to go into another room so we could discuss the issue. With her grandson there, it was pretty awkard to express that I was angry because all I could see is myself yelling at this child's grandmother. Who wants to see their grandma be yelled at? Anyway, she insisted she called the travel agent and somehow, they both decided one room could have twin sized beds. She blames the travel agent and the travel agent blames her so really its a lose lose situation for us. She had a 4th room that hadn't been checked into yet and refused to give it to us even though we made up 75% of her business. She could have easily called the other people and explained the mishap and at worst, offer another bed and breakfast. That's what happens in American Hotels if this kind of situation arises. What was worse was she never once apologized for the confusion and we were left standing in a bedroom with twin sized beds. She didn't even offer to push them together for us and do the best she can to accommodate us. We were left doing that on our own. The rooms are rather large but the walls are so thin that you can hear normal talking voices in the next room. You can also hear anything that goes on in the bathroom in your own room AND the room next door which was gross. Thank God it was our family though so, at least it wasn't a stranger. The t.v. in the room is extremely small and angled so when you lay in bed, all you can see is shadows and hear voices. The only reason it appears clear in the picture I attached is because of the flash and the angle I sat at to take the picture (you can see the twin beds pushed together by the way).
When our group came down for breakfast, there was 6 place setting and 5 chairs. 2 people in our party went to the other table set for 2 and Helen told them they were supposed to be at the large table. Once again, we were left to pick the chair up and move it to the table. It was about 2 steps but it was ridiculous that she couldn't have put the chair at the table. The guests who paid to stay there should not be doing that.
I was very disappointed to say the least. Every other place we stayed at along the way was absolutely wonderful except this one. We paid a lot of money for our trip and I expected better hospitality since we received excellent service everywhere else.

Room Tip: Don't bother staying here. The walls are paper thin. You'll hear anything going on in your b...

The Lochinver Farmhouse is nestled near a field of cows, above a winding river in a beautiful Irish countryside. Helen's hospitality is wonderful. She provided directions to many interesting places to discover. The home is immaculate and the breakfasts are delicious.

We loved our stay with Helen! It was the most peaceful place we've ever been. While it took some determination to find it (without a GPS), we were rewarded for our perseverance! Sunrise at Lochinver will long live in our memory with the cows grazing on the hill, the river winding its way through the countryside, and the sun peeking through the early morning clouds. Then we were treated to Helen's delicious breakfast before we set out for a walk to breathe in the morning air. We loved our room - it was spotless and comfortable with little touches and details that made us feel welcome. We truly loved our stay...

Helen and her farmhouse B&B are both wonderful. The location is a bit out of the way, but that just adds to the fun. It is well signed ao finding it isn't difficult. The whole place is immaculate and breakfast was wonderful. Helen truly goes the extra mile for her guests. We stayed 3 nights and found this to be an excellent base for visiting Kinsale and the surrounding country. Couldn't have been better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with either twin beds or a king bed. The double beds are difficult for those used to...

Thank you Helen. We had a wonderful time at Lochinver Farmhouse. Everything was perfect. The rooms were immaculate, the breakfast was delicious and the hospitality was fabulous. The area is absolutely gorgeous and our hostess could not have been more helpful. This corner of Ireland is a “must see” for everyone. We look forward to returning to Lochinver Farmhouse again someday. We wish we could have stayed longer.

We wish we could have stayed another day as the surroundings were beautiful and the accommodation could not have been better. Very comfortable bed, plenty of room, excellent bath room and the breakfast was perfect. Can't say enough about how friendly and inviting Helen was and how much we enjoyed watching the cows go to and from the milking barn. Excellent views of the valley and river, very peaceful. Convenient drive to many sights and activities.
