The Coyotepe is located near the city of Masaya, you can take the bus to get there (next to Papa John's) or take the taxi from the city Masaya (C$ 20). takes around 15 mins to walk to the fortress. It use to be a place for army and prison, but now is used for boy scout. Not visited often by foreigners but a lot of locals. There is a fee to enter. From the top you can see the whole city and the lake of masaya. You can ask for a tour down the dungeon. When you get down there the guide will lock the gates so be sure to stick to him. There are no lights in the bottom, the guide will tell a brief history of the place and where the prisons use to prison people. Kinda scary in the bottom....there is no fee for the tour, but the guide will ask for tip. Worth going if you have time and been to most of the popular places in Masaya.
