“A Great Find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

We went to Bistro at the Bijou two years ago and thought it was excellent. We specifically put Knoxville as a stop on our road trip this year just so we could return to this great place. We were not disappointed - remains our favourite bistro in the US.

“Funky restaurant, excellent food, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

It was Friday night at the Bistro in downtown Knoxville, with a family party of six. Nothing was happening at the Bijou theater next door, so getting a reservation wasn't a problem. We sat upstairs at a table overlooking the bar below. Black and white celebrity photos of musicians lined the wall on the stairway, including a closeup of Alice Cooper, that looked so fearsome that it spooked our granddaughter (it was her 8th birthday). For a short-term solution, we draped a napkin over it. Our waitress was sympathetic - she said that grownups had also complained of Alice's disturbing portrait. It was relatively quiet upstairs, a fact we appreciated on leaving, when we went downstairs where it was definitely more animated. Wines by the glass were reasonably priced and though not a wide selection, there were several offered that I could have ordered in addition to the red blend I chose.

For starters, we shared the baked goat cheese dip with cherry tomatoes and water crackers that were an excellent combination. My wife raved about her entree, the spice rubbed salmon with tzatziki, sliced tomatoes and black eyed pea salad. My entree was the angel hair pasta with shrimp. The combination of flavors in the sauce made it one of, if not the best I've ever had. The portions size was just right for me: ample, and not overwhelmingly huge.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience for the whole family.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013 via mobile

We were looking for a Jazz Club and this Bistro lounge came highly recommended. It is located off the beaten path ; but still in downtown Knoxville within three blocks walking distance from the Hilton and two blocks from the Market Square. Make sure not to miss out on this experience as it offers a fantastic dining experience with live jazz ....

“Cozy Spot by the Bijou Theater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

This is a cozy little place in downtown Knoxville, located near the historic Bijou Theater. They had jazz the night we were there, which added to a hep vibe. The atmosphere, at least in the evening, is jazz club dark, though the facade has many windows facing the street. The food is flavorful, by and large, and unbelievably inexpensive. We ended up ordering more food than we needed because I expected much smaller plates for the price. The pimento cheese balls (breaded and fried pimento cheese) were excellent and different. I was less impressed with the braised short rib, which should have been a lot more tender. Overall, it's a nice spot though, and worth trying.

“Excellent food”

Owner/chef prepares veggies from her garden. We had duck legs that were wonderful. Nice, friendly atmosphere and lovely decor.
