Great little hidden gem on the University of Tennessee's campus. Get a parking pass near entrance and park almost at front door. You will not be disappointed once inside. It is small, but very well done. And Free! Great for singles, families, elderly, etc.

“antiques and artifacts”

Nicely displayed antiques and artifacts. Wonderful American Indian arrowhead collection and displays of historically significant ways they were made and used.

“a little jewel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Be sure to get a 2-hr parking pass from the booth that is near the museum. Unfortunately that means if you would like to linger longer, you feels as though you are risking a ticket!

My favorite part of the museum was a new exhibit with silver jewelry and wool weavings of the Turkemon (nomadic people occupying present day Turkmenistan, also parts of Iran and Afganistan). There is a lot of cultural info, explaining who wears the jewelry, with photos or sketches to illustrate. The weavings are put in context too, not just random geometric shapes, but representations with meaning.

My second favorite exhibit was decorative arts, or what I call "around the world in one small room". There was a medieval wall hanging from Europe, a cowrie shell and beaded headdress representing an elephant from Africa, pottery from the Americas, a Daoist robe from Asia, and many more lovely pieces with no particular unifying theme.

The other diverse exhibits include a nearby Civil War battle, human evolution, dinosaurs, Egypt, early peoples of Tennessee, and fossils.

It's a great 2-hr free experience.

“Free to the public”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Cool little place to go. Not quite what you would expect in the heart of University of Tennessee's campus, but a pretty neat place to stop by. Won't take you long to tour through, but they have some interesting things to see and a nice gift shop.
