“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Had difficulty finding the hotel but once we got there it was easy to check in and check out. The breakfast was good. They served biscuits and gravy, big sausage patties, waffles, scrambled eggs, etc. for breakfast. The staff was very friendly. Next time I am in Kingsport, will definitely stay there again.

Wow hope you have an easier time than me finding this place. That was the downfall, it is in a tricky location with poor signage on every side. We get there and the snippy clerk doesn't see my reservation and doesn't seem to really care at all about it. So I take a moment to find my print out of my online reservation and then things went smoothly. Get to the room and other than outdated tv, it is clean and we ended up being pleased with our stay for the value. We paid $65 bucks with tax included and you can't beat it for that.

I will work this backwards
The Ugly - well, the building itself is old and the colors are drab. The decor is outdated. There were a lot of construction workers there.
The Bad - the hot breakfast portion of the free breakfast was not very good. The sausage & gravy tasted canned and the eggs tasted powdered. But the continental portion was good and will save you from buying breakfast.
The Good - this was a $50 room. It was clean. The bed was comfortable. The check is was easy and the staff was friendly. The room was quiet, even with the construction workers. Not only would I recommend this hotel, I plan on staying here again when I pass through Kingsport. At the price, it is a bargain.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room away from rowdy workers. I was told at checkout by the same girl that booked...

I keep seeing on the reviews that the rooms were renovated. If they were, I did not have one. I was so disappointed. I think the reviews are confusing this Red Roof with the Johnson City Red Roof close by. That Red Roof was recently renovated.

Held my breath when we first opened door to our room.....was scared what we got ourselves into. Then exhaled with relief. For $54 a night I was very pleased. The room was clean and bed was comfortable...actually slept very well. Yes the furniture is old and not high quality....this is not the Marriott! The only complaint we had were the small pillows. They were the size of throw pillows used on couches and other furniture. Very odd to sleep with. We did not try out the free breakfast, just coffee which was very good.

When we first pulled up, yellow construction tape blocked car access to the lobby, piles of old carpeting were stacked up outdoors, and a decaying restaurant next door obviously had been closed for a long time. But, going to the front desk, we confirmed that yes, the motel was open for business despite the ongoing renovation. Our first-floor room was very clean and adequate despite a garish decor (one wall bright red, another dark yellow, and just one cheap landscape print on the wall.) Two queen beds were both very comfortable, A-C worked well, and bathroom had an unexpected extra -- whirlpool bath. A few minor demerits -- TV remote malfunctioned and had to be reprogrammed, cigarette butts littered the sidewalk, card key failed on Day 2 and had to be reset, and soundproofing wasn't adequate to block out guitar-playing neighbors. On the plus side, the free hot breakfast was above average, and staff was very courteous and attentive. Housekeeping was excellent. Wifi worked fine, and the large circular table near the window was handy for spreading out paperwork. The driveway is off a side street from Route 11, and the motel is in the rear of a partly vacant office complex, so finding it the first time is a bit of a challenge. Lots of restaurants within a half-mile drive, and it's convenient to downtown, Colonial Heights, and the interstates. A good choice for the budget-minded who can live with deficient cosmetics. Once the renovation is complete, it may look a lot better. We may return in the fall.
