“One of the highlights of the weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2008

We drove down the area to visit the new Natural History / fossil museum in Gray Tenn. (Great museum - highly recommended - about 20 mins. from Jonesborough).
We found Hawley House on TripAdvisor - lucky for us.
The room was great - and we were able to walk to everything in town, including dinner. Snuggles was a surprise treat - so cute and adorable. The original chestnut wooden beams in the wall, plus all the antiques and little touches (like the autographed book of local folk stories on the bedside table) made the room cozy and comfortable.
The French Toast, biscuits, hash browns and snacks were fantastic.
One night was not enough to enjoy all so we will have to go back sometime...

Our stay with Marcy Hawley was the most enjoyable we have ever experienced. We felt like we had packed the atmosphere of home and took it with us. The bedroom we stayed in had a beautiful canopy bed with wonderful antiques and quilts. The breakfast that Ms. Marcy fed us was out of this world. You haven't tasted anything better than Ms. Marcy's homemade muffins and blueberry pancakes. It was the perfect place to stay for our 10th anniversary. We are already making plans to stay there again in the near future.

For a "Girlfriend Trip" to celebrate one of our birthdays, the Hawley House was a splendid experience! It is beautifully decorated and scrumptiously clean. Marcy and Snuggles were great hostesses. Marcy gave her time to tell us stories about the region and the house, and she listened with interest to our stories of our little group's travels experienced over the years. She is down to earth, but very well versed in almost any area. She prepared a delicious breakfast. I will have a difficult time going to Jonesborough ever again without at least a short visit with her to say "Hello" even if I don't stay overnight in the area. We found it fascinating to sit on the porch and imagine life by the railroad track when the house was built. The sound of the passing trains were only an addition to the ambiance. Jonesborough is the oldest town in Tennessee and Hawley House is the oldest house there so it isn't difficult to imagine how different life would have been. Then shopping in the many little shops and eating in very good restaurants was just topping on the cake. I'd happily go there again!

We compare every B&B with the Hawley House for we seek only those that are historically authentic, have warmth and comfort to remind us of the era in which the house was first built. Marcy Hawley is exceptional in taking care of her guests and each gourmet breakfast is unique and varied daily. We have stayed there many times and in each of the three rooms and love the trains that pass by for that too is part of the ambience and history of Jonesborough itself. After exploring the many stores in town only two blocks away, return to the inn, select a book and unwind. Especially cozy in winter with the fireplace and snacks she has available. Without a doubt, a must on any traveler's list of historic inns!

Had a "GREAT" experience! The accomodations were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the decor, not only within the home but the surrounding area as well. Food was great and the Inn Keeper went out of her way to provide a special breakfast for the business oriented guest. The "Train" was a special treat for me. It brought back very fond memories of my childhood days in Jonesboro, IN. Snuggles could have stayed around the whole time as far as I am concerned. A very personable "weiner dog" that loved to have her tummy rubbed.
Looking forward to our next visit - hopefully internet access will be up and running by then.

We stayed at the Hawley House for two nights...it was one of the most enjoyable experiences we have ever had. The room was incredible (The General Francis Preston room)...beautifully decorated with antiques and everything about it made us feel right at home. The breakfasts were wonderful...Marcy, the owner, is an excellent cook and provides a very relaxing atmosphere for meals. We loved being able to sit outside in the evening and watch the world go by...there were several trains that passed by during out stay which were fun to watch and added to the unique experience of this B & B. We enjoyed meeting Marcy and her dog, Snuggles. She provided us with a lot of local history and was so friendly we felt as though we had known her for years! We will definitely plan to stay with her again when we are in the Jonesborough, TN area. We would recommend this Inn to anyone who is looking for a wonderful stay in the oldest building in the oldest town in Tennessee.

The ambiance was peaceful and relaxing, the company enlightening, and the food was terrific! The entire house has been impeccably decorated by a true preservationist. I have visited this location on more than one occasion and have been truly impressed time and again. Hawley House is indeed a perfect getaway for anyone!
