“Nice but not a quiet room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a family funeral, the hotel is very nice. It is definitely full of business travelers during the week. It was easy to find and there is plenty of shopping and restaurants close by. As others have stated, I did find it noisy, but mostly during the early mornings. Beds are comfortable and check in was fast.

Have stayed at this property a couple of times. It's nicely appointed, and relatively new. Though we are brand loyal to Marriott, the Courtyard properties would be better off charging extra and providing breakfast. This property was not prepared for breakfast in either staffing or products. The wait was extremely long, and they were out of half their limited menu.

The decor is lovely, and of course the «new property» aspect is appreciated. However, all of that becomes less meaningful if you can't sleep due to:
i) paper thin walls. I could hear everything going on next door
ii) a large, cyclic noise coming from outside that sounded like a rocket taking off. It was a HUGE, repeated sound, and there's no way anybody could sleep through that
iii) loud compressor from the in-room climate control unit, which could not provide heat beyond 69 degrees.
This was an important business trip. By the end, I realized I had made a mistake staying here.

Stayed with the family at this Marriott. The staff if very helpful and ready to help, from the front desk to the cleaning lady. The WiFi is super-fast and they have a great cup of coffee waiting for you in the morning. This property is another example on why the Marriott brand sells. When visiting this area, I well be back to this nice hotel.

Room Tip: Room in the back of the hotel ten to be quieter.

The hotel was great. The staff, including the restaurant server, we're all very nice and welcoming. I do not like street noise and this hotel is very quiet. My only problem was in finding the location. Neither my GPS nor my Internet directions were correct. Since i arrived after dark, i had to spend several minutes driving around before i took the right road. I recommend calling to get he best route.

This is one of the new, updated Courtyard by Marriott locations. The property is 3 years old. It is located in the midst of the newest, most prosperous area of Johnson City and upper East Tennessee. It's a quick drive to the Speedway, the airport, ETSU, and the big medical center. Note: It's not on the interstate; you exit onto a 4-lane strip called "State of Franklin Blvd." and have to pay attention to exit onto Hamilton Place. But this location is good because it keeps the hotel far away from highway noise. There is a train track behind the property, but just far enough away it's not disturbing; you probably won't even notice it's there so no need to worry about it. You can walk to a block of restaurants including: Buffalo Wild Wings, Jason's Deli, a mexican restaurant, etc. It's a developing area, so over time more restaurants will pop up. Up and down State of Franklin road you can find most all the chains.

Room was great. I was in a "larger studio" which is $10 more than a regular room. Very spacious, with the extremely comfortable king bed, assorted pillows, nice work desk, sofa, comfy chair, and cabinet with microwave/mini-fridge/coffee maker. Bath had a large, walk-in shower, plenty of granite counter around the sink, good water. Two flat panel TV's. Everything was very clean, new, and fresh. Really the room was about as good as it gets, especially in this area.

Staff- everyone i talked to was exceptionally friendly and professional.

There is a small exercise room with 2 treadmills, 1 stepper, 1 bike, and a few freeweights. The pool is outdoors. There are no good walking/running/biking options adjacent to the hotel.

This hotel has one of the "bistro" setups in the lobby (typical for the new Courtyards): an area with some limited food options for purchase, and a small bar where a bottle of beer is over $5 but they have happy hour. The lobby is inviting and has plenty of areas to sit and hang out with other people. I purchased a breakfast sandwich and it was quite good. If you aren't familiar with the concept, think of the bistro as being like a Starbucks.

Both wi-fi and wired internet worked great and no hassles. If you have a 4G LTE aircard, there is strong coverage here and very fast access.

The only downside to this hotel is the wood frame building construction. (I really wish the big chains would stop building hotels out of wood.) Fortunately, I was here when the hotel was mostly empty, and was on the top floor, so i didn't hear any noise and got a great night's sleep. But one time, when i first arrived early in the evening, some teenagers were running up and down the halls and it sounded very loud, and the walls shook. Fortunately nothing was heard after 10PM. If you're a light sleeper stay on the top (3rd) floor. Otherwise, just turn on the heat/ac unit and slide the fan switch to ON (rather than AUTO) so it runs continuously, and you should do fine.

Price is a little expensive, but there are very few upscale options in this part of the country, and this really is a big step up from the usual cheap motels along the interstate. This might be the nicest location in the area, considering the competition is a Hampton Inn, a Holiday Inn express, a Jameson Inn, and it goes down from there. For me, an extra 20% on a nightly rate is well worth the pleasant experience & good nights sleep. It's more of a business hotel, but i can understand some may find it hard to justify $120/night in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Let me begin by stating that we have used this hotel frequently for the past four or five years while our son attended ETSU. The staff here has always made us feel welcome and like a priority to them. Our most recent stay was due to his unexpected hospitalization. Our need for additional nights was changing constantly and they handled it like they were happy to do so... In fact, I believe they were genuinely concerned. I have been fortunate to get to know several of the staff members during this time. Amy has been there the longest and is a delight. Ethan is among the most eagerly helpful and outgoing front desk people I have met. Other names escape me, but the other front desk staff, housekeeping, the bartender, all are super employees! As to the facility, it keeps up with the great staff and I have no plans to stay anywhere else in Johnson City unless I have to.

Room Tip: I like the upper floors on the back of the hotel because the view is beautiful. However, I have no...
