We called in the morning to reserve our room at the Americas Best Value Inn of Jellico, TN. We were not going to be in the motel room long, so we decided to save a little money and stay here instead of a newer hotel in Corbin, KY as we usually do. As far as Jellico goes if you must stay in town stay here. It appears to be much nicer than the others two choices which are the Days Inn and the Jellico Motel. The motel has exterior corridors, but is lit very well with each room having a bright light outside of it. Also, we felt very safe here as it was very quiet and unlike some other older motels there did not seem to be any trouble making guests. When we arrived at check-in the man at the front desk was very friendly and polite.
The room (a non-smoking first floor) had an old musty smoke smell, but what do you expect from an older motel? However, when we began looking around the room we found that the light switch and the walls were. The air conditioner was not at the window, but instead is a vent located above the bathroom controlled by a switch on the wall. When we turned the air on it was very noisy and shook most of the room. One of the chairs had a few stains on it, but that didn't bother us too much. One good thing was that there was a nice working mini fridge in the room that we liked, but it appeared that a microwave had been attached to the top and ripped off. There were quite a few good points too though. The sheets were clean and we got a good rest. Our room appeared to have new carpet in the room and new tile in the bathroom. Also, it looked like the bathroom had a new door on it and the shower was very clean. We left early when it was still dark outside and we all felt very safe packing up. The setting of this motel is fantastic on top of a hill nestled in the foothills of the Cumberland Mountains. The location made it very cozy. Another positive was that a free breakfast was offered. I can not say what it consisted of though because we needed to get on the road and didn't have time to eat.
Overall if you are just passing through and want a quick rest on the way to somewhere else this isn't a bad place. I woundn't plan on coming here and spending more than one night here, but if you are just passing through and will only spend seven hours in the room like us this is an okay place to stay. We only paid $51.41 for the room including tax so that was nice. If you just want a cheap place to get some rest for a few hours this is a nice place.
